The Southeastern Honors Scholarship
The Southeastern Honors Scholarship is automatically awarded to freshman based on their six-semester high school GPA and ACT/SAT scores. This scholarship comprises an award that goes toward university fees plus a housing supplement. Priority is given to applications submitted by January 15 of the student’s high school senior year.
Eligibility:
- Full-time first-time freshmen
- Minimum 24 ACT score or higher (or SAT equivalent)
- Minimum 3.0 six-semester high school cumulative GPA (GPA through the student’s junior year of high school)
- Qualifying ACT/SAT scores must be earned by the July test date immediately following the student’s high school graduation date.
- All qualifying GPAs and test scores must be received by Southeastern on or before August 1 immediately following the student’s high school graduation date.

All scholarships are awarded for eight continuous semesters provided retention requirements are met. Housing supplements are only available to students who continuously live on campus beginning with their first semester of enrollment.
ExCEL Scholarship
The ExCEL Scholarship is open to entering freshmen at Southeastern Louisiana University. This program is a leadership development initiative that recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills, and a dedication to positively impacting their community.

Eligibility
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Students must have a completed Southeastern application on file before applying for the scholarship and plan to enroll at Southeastern the fall semester immediately after high school graduation.
- Minimum 2.75 core high school grade point average
- Must be eligible to take college-level English and Math (without co-requisite need)
- Have a proven record of leadership in high school and community activities

Dual Enrollment 15+ Completion Award
Students who complete 15 or more Southeastern dual enrollment credit hours can also receive a supplementary award for their first year at Southeastern only, contingent on the availability of funds.

The Senator Ben Nevers Transfer Scholarship
The Senator Ben Nevers Transfer Scholarship is offered to new transfer students at Southeastern.

All scholarships are awarded for up to six continuous semesters provided retention requirements are met. The number of semesters is based on the total number of hours the student has attempted. Although there is no formal deadline, students are strongly encouraged to apply early. The application for admission serves as the application for scholarships as well.

Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Golden Opportunity Scholarship
Southeastern Louisiana University encourages students who are active Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Honor Society members to transfer to Southeastern upon completion of an associate’s degree.
Purpose
The purpose of this scholarship is to offer transfer options to active PTK Honor Society graduates in pursuit and completion of higher education goals.
Eligibility Guidelines
In addition to the Senator Ben Nevers Transfer Scholarship, students who are PTK graduates can also receive a supplementary two-year scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University, contingent on the availability of funds, upon meeting the following criteria:
- Student must have completed an associate’s degree in the semester immediately prior to the first semester of enrollment at Southeastern with a 3.0 cumulative grade point average. Students who enter in the Fall semester must have completed an associate’s degree in the prior Spring or Summer semesters.
- Student must be an active PTK member at the time of graduation.
- Student must complete the FAFSA.
- Student must complete an application for admission to Southeastern
- Student must enroll full-time at Southeastern no later than the first regular semester (Fall or Spring) following their completion of an associate’s degree. Students enrolling during the Summer semester, must enroll in 6 or more hours.
Student Guidelines To maintain eligibility, students must:
- Earn a total of 30 credits or more at the end of each academic year; and
- Maintain a 3.0 semester GPA to retain the award.
Guaranteed Admissions
Students who meet the PTK Golden Opportunity Scholarship guidelines are guaranteed admission to Southeastern after completing an admissions application. Admission to a specific program of study is not guaranteed.
Scholarship Amount
The PTK Golden Opportunity Scholarship offers \$1,500 per year, divided into \$600 for Fall, \$600 for Spring, and \$300 for Summer, for up to two years. Summer enrollment is optional; however, if the student does not attend the summer term, the \$300 Summer award will be forfeited. This scholarship will be in addition to any other scholarships for which the student qualifies.
Application Process
Students must request the PTK Scholarship online via their Workday account.
- Create a Scholarship Request: Log into Workday and search “Create Request.”
- Select Phi Theta Kapa (PTK) Scholarship Request.
- Complete the form and upload any relevant supporting documentation.
Scholarship requests are reviewed in the order received, and students will be notified of the decision through Workday.
Departmental Scholarships

The Louisiana Gas Association Scholarship
The Louisiana Gas Association Scholarship is available to junior and senior students at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Eligibility:
- Louisiana resident and a graduate of a Louisiana high school
- Enrolled in the College of Engineering or Business Administration, or be pursuing a technological degree
The Harvey Theriot, Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Harvey Theriot, Jr. Memorial Endowed Scholarship is available to full-time students at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Walter C. Teagle Foundation Scholarship
The Walter C. Teagle Foundation Scholarship is available to students at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Legislative Act 353 Scholarship
The Legislative Act 353 Scholarship is available to students who are dependents of firefighters or police officers injured or killed in the line of duty, as determined by the Board of Trustees of the Firefighter’s or Police Officer’s Pension Relief Fund.
Eligibility
Eligible dependents of firefighters may receive the scholarship for up to 10 semesters, and dependents of police officers may receive it for up to 8 semesters, provided retention requirements are met.
Application Process
Students who meet the above criteria may submit a request for the Legislative Act 353 Scholarship in their Workday account.
- Log in to Workday.
- In the search bar at the top of the page, type in “Create Request” and press Enter.
- Under Request Type, select “Legislative Act 353 Scholarship Request” and click OK.
- Fill out the form, upload relevant supporting documentation, and press “Submit”.
You will receive a notification of approval or denial in your Workday within 5-7 business days after submitting your response.
Retention
- You must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
- You must be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 hours).
SGA Study Abroad Scholarship
The SGA Study Abroad Scholarship provides financial support to Southeastern students who are participating in an approved study abroad program.
Purpose
This opportunity is designed to help offset travel and program expenses while encouraging students to expand their academic experience beyond the classroom.
Application Process
Students planning to study abroad are invited to apply for funding through this scholarship to support their global learning experience. Applications open on Feb 9th and Close March 6th at 9am.
Commuter Meal Plan Scholarship
Undergraduate commuters registered for at least 6 credit hours in the Fall 2025 semester will receive the Commuter Meal Plan Scholarship for Fall 2025/Spring 2026.
Eligibility
Qualified students do not have to apply for the scholarship. It will be automatically applied to the student’s account.
Award Amount
The scholarship provides 10 all-you-can-eat meals at the Mane Dish (located on the 2nd floor of the Student Union) plus \$20 in Cub Cash which can be used at any campus dining facility, including the campus markets. Meals and Cub Cash are accessed using the Southeastern ID. Any unused meals and/or Cub Cash will expire at the end of the Spring 2026 semester.
Waivers and Benefits
Southeastern offers several waivers and benefits to help students afford their education.
Non-Resident Fee Waivers
Southeastern Louisiana University offers non-resident fee waivers for international students who are beginning freshman or transferring to Southeastern. The application for admission to Southeastern serves as the application for the waiver. Out of state tuition fees range from \$1,412 for students registered for four credit hours to \$6238 for full-time students taking twelve or more hours. These fees are paid in addition to the university’s regular tuition.
Eligibility
Students who receive the scholarship will remain eligible for renewal as long as they maintain status as a full-time student, remain in “GOOD” academic standing, and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
To drop below full-time status, to stay out of school for a fall or spring semester, or to be placed on academic probation or suspension will forfeit the waiver. A student may reapply after the completion of one regular semester of full-time enrollment in “GOOD” academic standing.
Note: The following categories of students are not eligible for the fee waiver: Graduate students, other students who have already earned a Bachelor degree, and currently enrolled non-resident students who enrolled prior to the effective date of this scholarship (Spring 2002).
Graduate Assistantships
Southeastern’s Office of Research and Graduate Studies offers an excellent assistantship program for graduate students. Graduate assistants receive a stipend and, in most positions, a waiver of in-state and out-of-state tuition.
