Unlocking a Lifetime of Connection: The Benefits of the SFSU Alumni Association

For graduates of San Francisco State University, the connection to alma mater doesn't have to end at commencement. The SFSU Alumni Association (SFSUAA) offers a multitude of benefits and opportunities to stay engaged with the university and fellow graduates, both professionally and personally. From networking and career development to exclusive discounts and access to campus resources, the Alumni Association provides a valuable link to the Gator community long after graduation.

Staying Connected: Alumni Groups and Networks

One of the key ways the SFSUAA fosters community is through its Alumni Groups Program. This initiative provides alumni with the resources to connect with others who share similar interests, academic backgrounds, or professional fields. These groups can be regional chapters, academic societies, or affinity groups.

  • Regional Chapters: Connect with fellow alumni in your geographic area, whether it's within the Bay Area, across the country, or even internationally.
  • Academic Societies: Reunite with graduates from your specific field of study and engage in discussions and events related to your academic interests.
  • Affinity Groups: Bond with alumni who share a common identity, interest, or passion. These groups can be united by collegiate team sports, identity and/or professional interests.

These groups organize events throughout the year, ranging from social gatherings like happy hours to community service initiatives like beach clean-ups. The possibilities are endless, and alumni are encouraged to plan one to two events per year.

Several active alumni groups exemplify the diverse interests and passions of the SFSU community:

  • SFSU Alumni Book Club: This club promotes community and connection for SFSU alumni worldwide through a shared love of books and reading. They host virtual meetups every three months, consistent discussions on their Goodreads page, and an in-person event each semester. Members vote on books together, explore alumni authors, and connect with fellow book enthusiasts.
  • Muslim Alumni Group (MAG): MAG brings together Muslim SF State alumni to foster a network focused on personal and professional growth, ongoing learning, and community involvement. It provides a welcoming space for alumni to grow their professional circles, mentor SF State students, and strengthen kinship bonds.
  • Queer Alumni: This newly formed affinity group aims to create a space for LGBTQ SFSU alumni to connect, find friendship, and celebrate queer identities. They plan queer-focused social events, service initiatives, and various opportunities for connection.
