Founded in 1983 by Dr. Gerard J. Putz and Jack Cairns, Science Olympiad was created to ignite interest in science as a dynamic alternative to traditional science fairs and single-discipline tournaments. Inspired by successful trial Olympiads in Michigan and Delaware, the program rapidly expanded. Forty-one years later, Science Olympiad has a presence in every state and has grown into one of the largest student-serving STEM competitions in the country. Science Olympiad tournaments are rigorous academic interscholastic competitions that consist of a series of team events, which students prepare for during the year. These challenging and motivational events are well balanced between the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, and technology.
The Science Olympiad USA Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's mission through annual grants in four main categories: college scholarships, early-career research grants, STEM teacher incentives, and state chapter support. Fiscal conservancy and smart investing from Day One in 1984 allowed early savings to grow to a point where the Foundation can accelerate its giving.
Presbyterian College (PC), founded in 1880 by the Rev. William Plumer Jacobs, embodies a similar commitment to academic rigor and service, providing students with transformative education in preparation for impactful careers. PC's innovative approach uses service as a tool of self-discovery, an amplifier of problem-solving skills, and a catalyst of curiosity, epitomized by the newly-developed Center for Inquiry, Research, and Scholarship (CIRAS). Science Olympiad Founders' Scholarships
To honor the founders of Science Olympiad, the Science Olympiad USA Foundation awards five $10,000 college scholarships annually to outstanding seniors. These scholarships recognize high-achieving Science Olympiad seniors who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and skill in the competition.
Eligibility and Application: The Science Olympiad Founders’ Scholarships worth $10,000 are awarded to five graduating high school seniors who were members of a registered Division C team. The application period typically opens in the spring, with awards announced in May. The 2025 application opened February 17, 2025, and was due midnight CST on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Application Details: The application is open to Class of 2025 graduating high school SENIORS ONLY who participated on a registered Division C Science Olympiad team during the 2024-2025 season; coaches may be contacted for verification. Each student may only submit one entry; once your entry is submitted, it is considered final. No person may submit an entry on your behalf.
Selection and Award: The five (5) winners will be announced on May 8, 2025. All decisions will be made by Science Olympiad and are final. By applying for this award you agree to these terms and the ones listed below. The funds will be payable directly to the college of a student's choice upon enrollment after October 1, 2025.

Science Olympiad Alumni Research (SOAR) Grants
The Science Olympiad Alumni Research (SOAR) Grants provide financial support to Science Olympiad alumni who are pursuing breakthrough research at US universities. These grants aim to foster innovation and discovery by empowering young researchers to explore cutting-edge topics in STEM.
Grant Details: At least two $25,000 awards are given annually. The application period is in the spring, and awards are announced in July.
