Understanding Santa Fe Prep Tuition and Affordability
Santa Fe Preparatory School, a top-ranked New Mexico school serving grades 7-12, is committed to providing an exceptional education to motivated students. With an enrollment of 318 students and an average class size of 13, Santa Fe Prep aims to foster a supportive learning environment. This article delves into the tuition fees associated with Santa Fe Prep, the availability of tuition assistance, and other financial considerations for prospective families.
Tuition Costs and Payment Options
The yearly tuition for Santa Fe Prep is $20,057. Understanding that paying the tuition obligation in one payment can be difficult, Santa Fe Prep offers flexibility with payment plans. Families can choose to pay their balance (after tuition assistance) in 1, 2, or 12 installments. For those receiving tuition assistance and selecting a payment plan, a deposit of $500 is due at the time of enrollment, along with $200 for tuition insurance.
It's important to note that the total cost to educate each student at Santa Fe Prep exceeds the stated tuition and fees. The difference is covered by income from the school’s endowment and fundraising efforts within the school community. Each family is expected to participate in the Fund for Santa Fe Prep.
Tuition Assistance: Making Prep Affordable
Santa Fe Prep is committed to providing access to an exceptional education to motivated students with financial need. Awards are based on demonstrated economic need and the availability of funds. Students are first accepted to the School on the basis of character, grades, teacher recommendations, special talents, and potential for personal growth, regardless of ability to pay. Tuition Assistance is available to qualifying families.
To streamline the financial aid application process, Santa Fe Prep uses Clarity as their financial aid application provider. Clarity offers a mobile-friendly application that can be completed relatively quickly. The system also retrieves your W2 and 1040 forms directly from the IRS, removing the need for manual uploading. Clarity is certified for GDPR and SOC2 and uses enterprise-level security standards, including end-to-end encryption of all personally identifiable information.

Applying for Tuition Assistance
Families seeking tuition assistance must submit a Clarity application each year to qualify. As long as the student remains at Prep, tuition assistance will be renewed annually based on demonstrated need. However, changes in income or family circumstances may lead to adjustments in the awards. Tuition assistance grants will not be awarded to families who no longer demonstrate need. Late applicants are encouraged to start the tuition assistance application process at the time they submit an application for admission. If paperwork is submitted on or before January 16, 2026, and if the student is accepted to Prep, families will be notified by February 27, 2026.
Factors Considered in Determining Need
Clarity analyzes a family’s ability to pay for private education based on assets, income, expenses, and debts. The suggested family contribution is based on income, expenses, and assets, using the two-years-prior tax return. Your 1040 and W2 documents will be automatically transferred from the IRS when you complete the verification steps through Clarity. For those who have partnerships, limited partnerships, corporations, or other business entities, Prep will need copies of the applicable business tax returns, which can be uploaded into your Clarity application.
The Tuition Assistance Committee considers the income and assets of both natural parents. Spouses of remarried parents or other adult wage earners living in the house should also provide financial information as part of the tuition assistance application. Each family household should complete the application through Clarity. The Committee will keep in mind the stepparent’s obligation to his or her natural children. Prep cannot be bound by the assertion that one parent has disclaimed responsibility for educational expenses. All information submitted is confidential and will not be shared with either family. Santa Fe Prep will not be able to review an application until all required information is complete.
Parental Responsibility and Additional Considerations
Santa Fe Prep believes that financing a child's education is primarily the family’s responsibility, expecting both parents to contribute financially. If a spouse chooses not to work, $25,000 will be added to the income calculations for evaluation.
If a family has children in other independent schools or colleges, they are expected to apply to those institutions for tuition assistance as well. The amount the family pays at these schools will be taken into consideration when determining the family’s ability to pay tuition at Santa Fe Prep. Santa Fe Prep does not consider most ordinary business or rental depreciation or loss while calculating financial need. All information related to the parents’ financial circumstances will be treated confidentially and is used only to arrive at a fair determination of financial need.
