Roanoke College Self-Service is a powerful tool designed to help students manage their academic careers, from planning their schedules to registering for classes. This guide will provide you with a comprehensive overview of how to use Self-Service effectively, ensuring a smooth and successful academic experience.

Accessing Self-Service

To access Self-Service, follow the link provided by the college, which should lead you to the Self-Service login page. If you are off-campus, be sure to use the off-campus link. After logging in, you will arrive at the student homepage. From there, navigate to the student planning page, where you can check your academic progress and register for classes.

Planning Your Courses

The student planning page is where you schedule your courses. You can use the arrows at the top left to switch between terms. To find a specific course, type the course name or number into the search bar. For example, if you want to add Psychology 251 to your schedule, type it into the search bar. This will bring you to the course catalog.

Clicking "Add Course to Plan" and selecting a term will add the class to the left sidebar under planned classes, but it will not put the available class sections on your schedule. To see all sections available for both the current and next term, click "View Available Sections for PSYC-251."

Registration

On the day of your registration time, a "Register Now" button will appear on the right side of the page. Clicking this button will register you for all classes currently on your course schedule.

Utilizing Self-Service for Course Exploration

Self-Service isn't just for registering for pre-selected courses. It's also a valuable tool for exploring the course catalog and discovering new areas of interest. If you're looking for general types of classes, simply type the subject into the search bar. For example, if you want to see all psychology classes, type "psychology" into the search bar.

The Importance of Academic Advising

Advisors play a crucial role in guiding students through their academic journey. They can help you understand degree requirements, explore potential majors and minors, and develop a course plan that aligns with your academic and career goals.

Advisors might reach out to you to set up meetings since registration will begin on Monday, April 19th. Some advisors should be reaching out to you this week if they haven’t already for a pre-registration advising meeting. If not, it might be a good idea to reach out to them first.

Your advisor can help you indicate what classes are available next semester but you can (and should) look at what is being offered through self-service by typing in the class name or number in the search bar in self-service. Before you meet with your advisor, pick classes that are required and/or that you want to take and make a draft of your schedule using self-service.

Preparing for Registration: A Proactive Approach

Before meeting with your advisor, take the time to explore the course catalog in Self-Service and create a draft schedule. Identify required courses and courses that pique your interest. This proactive approach will make your advising meeting more productive and ensure that you are well-prepared for registration.

Navigating Potential Registration Challenges

Class registration goes in order with those who have the most credits prior to the current term picking their classes first so it is possible that you may not get your first choices. That’s okay! Having a plan B and sometimes even a plan C helps reduce disappointment and worry about not taking classes that are interesting to you but also meet requirements.

Blue View Vision will continue to offer voluntary vision which offers an enhanced benefit that includes both eyeglass lenses and contact lenses benefits in the same year, increased out-of-network allowances and no formulary for frames or contact lenses. The College allows employees to rollover any remaining balance up to $660 for the 2026 plan year. For 2026, employees may contribute $4,400 for single coverage or $8,750 for family coverage. Individuals age 55 or older can also make a catch-up contribution of $1,000 anytime during the year in which you turn 55. Roanoke College will continue to make employer sponsored Health Savings Account (HSA) contributions to employees enrolled in the college-sponsored High Deductible Health Plan 7 (PPO Plan 7).
