Industrial Design Internship: A Deep Dive
One such opportunity is the Industrial Design Internship at the Polaris Design Studio in Minnesota. This internship is designed for individuals with a passion for design and a desire to contribute to the creation of cutting-edge powersports vehicles and related products.
Responsibilities and Skills Development
As an Industrial Design Intern, you will be immersed in the conceptual process for new product creation within the Polaris product portfolio. This involves:
- Conceptualization and Design: Sketching and executing original designs through segment category research, while regularly making decisions with guidance from Senior Designers regarding characteristics that fit VOC and Brand DNA while incorporating these to improve his/her work.
- Collaboration: Working closely with experienced designers, engineers, product managers, clay modelers, and digital modelers to bring concepts to life. Collaborating with cross-functional team, including Engineering and Product Managers, on their respective projects. Working with Clay Modelers if their theme/design is selected. Works with Digital Modelers during theme/design development.
- Presentation: Presenting concepts and ideas to Design peers and Design Management alongside Senior and Lead designers and provides project feedback during the weekly program meetings. Presenting team members with the story behind their designs and taking notes about next steps and actions to progress their designs.
- Digital Design: Creating digital design assets using industry-standard software. Creates Digital-Design assets through digital software provided to you through the Polaris Design Dept. Should be proficient with software including, but not limited to: Blender, Gravity Sketch, Keyshot, Alias, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Customer Focus: Creating concepts that meet or exceed customer expectations by using product descriptions to develop a theme. Daily work will include absorbing criteria-led requirements from Product Managers, Engineers, and Manufacturing.
The designs from the Intern may be refined, executed, and utilized up to, and including, production intent. The Design Intern will interact with all peer groups at a level that requires solid decision-making, and they will be required to present their work to various levels of Polaris Leadership.

- Portfolio: A strong design portfolio showcasing your skills and creativity is essential. A Design portfolio is required for consideration. Please submit as a link or PDF; if the link does not work, include a PDF version.
- Education: Currently enrolled in an Industrial Design program at a recognized Design School.
- Experience: 1+ years experience Powersports experience a plus Peer-review experience a plus
- Skills: Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn are crucial for success in this role. Good team player, great attitude and desire to learn.
Working Environment
The Industrial Design Internship is a hands-on, studio-based experience located in Medina, Minnesota. This is a hands-on, studio-based internship in Medina, Minnesota, and requires being onsite five (5) days a week. Interns will have the opportunity to work in a professional design studio environment, gaining exposure to advanced CMF (Color, Material, and Finish) development, graphics workflows, and full-scale vehicle mockups. The role offers exposure to advanced CMF development, graphics workflows, and full-scale vehicle mockups within a professional design studio environment. Interns will gain real-world experience supporting production-focused design work while learning how CMF and graphics contribute to the development of high-performance Polaris products.
Compensation
The salary range for this position in Minnesota is $19.50 to $30.75 per hour. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills, and geography.
