Early Years and Relocations
In its early years, Palm Beach Junior College (PBJC) faced several relocations due to various circumstances. Initially, the curriculum was based on that of the University of Florida and the Florida State Women's College (now Florida State University). John I. Leonard became the first president of PBJC in 1936. By 1948, the College had outgrown its original building and moved to Morrison Field, a retired Air Force base used in World War II. However, the Korean Conflict led to the reactivation of Morrison Field, forcing PBJC to relocate once again in 1951 to Lake Park Town Hall. The cramped quarters at Lake Park resulted in a significant drop in enrollment. Despite the challenges, the Lake Park location is fondly remembered by alumni for its strong sense of community.
A Permanent Home and Integration
In 1956, the College finally found a permanent home when the Board of Public Instruction of Palm Beach County donated 114 acres in Lake Worth, and the state provided $1 million for buildings. This marked a turning point for PBJC, providing stability and the opportunity for growth. In 1965, the state legislature mandated the merger of black and white two-year colleges, leading to the integration of Palm Beach Junior College and Roosevelt Junior College.

Many students transfer to FAU after completing their associate degrees at PBSC.
