Understanding Oregon State University Ecampus Tuition Costs

Oregon State University (OSU) offers a wide range of online degree programs through its Extended Campus (Ecampus). Understanding the tuition costs associated with these programs is crucial for prospective students. This article provides a comprehensive overview of Oregon State Ecampus tuition costs, fees, payment options, and financial aid opportunities.

Estimating the Cost of Attendance

The Office of Financial Aid at Oregon State University provides an estimate of full-time educational costs for attending OSU for the standard academic year. These costs are standard financial aid budget items and represent an estimate of what students can anticipate spending for tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, and personal and miscellaneous expenses. It is important to note that these Cost of Attendance figures are used for budgeting purposes only and represent an estimate of projected costs for the academic year before any financial aid. Actual costs may vary based on personal circumstances.

The Net Price Calculator is intended to provide an estimate of your cost of attendance and an estimate of federal, state and institutional aid based on students similar to you in previous school years.

Tuition and Fees Breakdown

Tuition and fees are a primary component of the overall cost. Estimated Tuition and Fees are based on 15 credits per term for undergraduates or 11 credits per term for graduates and three terms, or one regular academic year. Tuition and fees can vary based on program of study, number of credits enrolled, residency status and degree level. Official tuition rates may vary after approval from the board of trustees and the Higher Education Coordinating Commission.

For Ecampus online undergraduate degree programs, the basic OSU tuition is $185 per credit with a $75 distance education fee, for a total cost of $260 per credit. For online graduate degree programs, basic OSU tuition is $421 per credit, for a total of $496 per credit.

It is important to note that tuition and fees for Ecampus courses are listed in the class listing for each course. These rates are separate from the tuition and fees for all other courses. For non-degree seeking students enrolled in less than 9 credits, tuition and fees are assessed at resident rates based on undergraduate or graduate course level. Enrollment in excess of 8 credits requires tuition and fees to be assessed at the same rates applied to admitted students. Nonresident differential and student level (undergraduate or graduate) will be applicable.

All new students (except non-degree seeking) are charged a one-time fee of $418.00 at the start of their first term at OSU. This fee provides access to a variety of OSU programs and services at no additional charge. Additional fees may accompany specific courses or be assessed as noted in the online Schedule of Classes or other materials may be required as noted with the OSU Beaver Store.

Living Expenses and Other Costs

Living Expenses is an average figure for both on-campus and off-campus living arrangements, but OSU only directly bills students if living on-campus. Lower cost options may also be available that can save up to several thousand dollars per year compared to the average.

Books and Supplies is an average amount you might spend on books and supplies. OSU uses a quarter system with a standard school year consisting of three quarters or "terms" (Fall, Winter, and Spring). The "1 Term" column shows the estimated costs for a standard term, such as Fall.

In addition to estimated books/supplies costs, you are likely to have other academic expenses such as proctored exams.

Payment Information and Deadlines

When you finish registering, your schedule is official and you are officially registered in the university. This obligates you to pay all tuition and fees for your classes. If you wish to cancel this commitment and reduce or eliminate tuition charges for the term, you must officially cancel your registration or withdraw from the university.

After you register, tuition and fees for summer classes will not be posted to student accounts until late June. Student account statements are produced at the beginning of each month (e.g. July). Unpaid balances remaining after the 1st of the following month (e.g. August) become past due and will be assessed an interest charge. Past due balances may prevent future access to registration and transcripts.

When you complete web registration you are officially registered with the university. At that time, you are obligated to pay all tuition/fees. Students are sent a bill each month around the 5th detailing all charges, credits, and payments on their account. Tuition assessments will occur bi-weekly prior to the start of the term. Beginning the first day of the term, tuition assessments will occur daily.

Unpaid balances of more than $500.00 as of the 1st of the month following the first eBill statement of the term are considered past due, and will be assessed a late fee of $85.00. Students are financially responsible for all courses for which they register. Students are responsible for paying fees by the deadline even if they do not receive a bill. Students enrolled in a payment plan and current on their installment payments will be exempt from the Student Account Late Fee.

Refunds

Refunds are based on assessed tuition and mandatory fees, and are calculated from the date you officially withdraw or cancel your registration or reduce your class load, not the last date of class attendance. Refunds are automatically processed as a credit on your account. A check will be issued to you for any remaining credit balance after accounts receivable and financial aid repayments have been satisfied.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Financial aid is available to fully-admitted students of the Ecampus in the form of need-based grants, Federal and State financial aid, and scholarships.

Financial Aid and Scholarship money is credited directly to the student account and is used to pay tuition and qualifying charges. Any excess financial aid is refunded to the student in the form of a check or direct deposit to the student's bank account.

To receive federal financial aid through OSU-Cascades, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and be admitted to an OSU-Cascades. Although you may be attending classes taught by more than one institution, you can receive financial aid only from your home institution, OSU-Cascades. For financial aid purposes, only credits through OSU and COCC will be combined and counted towards your financial aid enrollment and disbursement. Federal financial aid and scholarships will automatically be posted to registered students' receivable accounts. Students registering later will have their aid applied the day following registration.

OSU does participate in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE). The benefit is awarded competitively to a limited number of qualifying students as a scholarship. Non-resident tuition at OSU is not reduced based on the state of residence. Students awarded a WUE scholarship will be notified by the Scholarship Office and will see the estimated scholarship amount on their financial aid offer letter.

Emergency Loans

Emergency loans, not to exceed a total of $350.00 per term, are available to admitted degree seeking students in good financial standing, attending at least half time, and with zero balance from previous terms. Loan amounts become part of the revolving account balance, and carry interest at 1% per month (12% APR). Emergency Loans are processed through the Business Office in Corvallis.
