Navigating Parking at Northern Arizona University: A Comprehensive Guide
Finding convenient and accessible parking near a busy university like Northern Arizona University (NAU) can often feel like a daunting task. With a large student population, frequent events, and visitors coming from near and far, understanding the parking options and regulations is essential. This guide aims to provide comprehensive information about parking at NAU, covering everything from permit requirements to alternative parking solutions.
Understanding NAU's Parking Landscape
NAU's campus can be a crowded environment. A significant portion of the student body lives on campus, contributing to the demand for parking. To manage this demand, NAU has implemented a parking permit system and various regulations.
Parking Permits: Who Needs Them and How to Get One
Students who plan on living on campus and driving a vehicle are required to buy a parking permit for the lot designated to their building. Students who live off campus and choose to drive to school must purchase a commuter pass. Parking permits range in price. It's imperative to buy one immediately to ensure that one purchases the desired permit. Permits can be purchased at the Centennial Building (Building 91) on North campus or online at nau.edu/parking.
Important Considerations for Permit Holders
- Vehicle Registration: Register your vehicle after obtaining a permit.
- Effective Dates: Always make sure to pay attention to the parking permit effective dates.
- Designated Lots: If a student fails to park in the proper lot the parking permit dictates, or parks on campus without a permit, citations will be issued.
- Color-Coded System: Signs and permits are color-coded on the campus parking map.
Alternative Parking Options
A university parking permit or paid short-term parking is required to park on campus. There are alternative parking solutions for those who do not wish to purchase a parking permit or need short-term parking.
Short-Term Parking
An additional short-term parking option includes the “15 Minute Parking, No Permit Required” stalls. These stalls are ideal for quick visits to campus.

Understanding and Handling Parking Citations
It is essential to adhere to parking regulations to avoid citations. Permit requirements are posted at the entrances to all lots.
Appealing a Citation
A citation is viewable and able to be appealed through manage my parking. Citations may be appealed within 14 days of issuance. After this time, citations associated with an NAU account will bill to LOUIE. If you do not have a LOUIE account, log into manage my parking, create a guest account, or pay in our office using a major credit card.
