North Dakota State College of Science: An Overview
North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) is a public institution located in Wahpeton, North Dakota. As one of the oldest two-year comprehensive residential colleges in the nation, NDSCS has been providing educational opportunities since its founding in 1903. The college is part of the North Dakota University System and offers a range of degrees, certificates, and diplomas in both traditional career and technical studies, as well as liberal arts.
Campus and Locations
The main campus of NDSCS is situated in Wahpeton, North Dakota. Spanning 128 acres, the campus comprises 35 buildings. The campus boundaries are defined by 8th Avenue to the south and 4th Street to the east. A significant landmark on campus is Old Main, which has been a central feature of NDSCS for many years. Old Main, designed by architect John M. Coxhead, was constructed in 1891 as the original home of Red River Valley University. Notably, the North Dakota Academy of Science opened in the building's west wing in 1903. The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1984. In addition to the main campus in Wahpeton, NDSCS also has a campus in Fargo.
Academics and Programs
NDSCS offers degrees, certificates, and diplomas in more than 80 academic options. Students can earn degrees and certificates in 44 different fields. The college provides a wide array of academic options in traditional career and technical studies, as well as the liberal arts. Popular programs include Liberal Arts and Sciences/Liberal Studies, Diesel Mechanics Technology/Technician, and Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse.
The college operates on a semester-based academic calendar. The student-faculty ratio is 12-to-1, which allows for personalized attention and interaction between students and instructors.
NDSCS also recognizes the value of prior learning experiences. The North Dakota State College of Science Credit for Prior Learning Assessment Program enables adult learners to apply their life and work experiences toward earning a degree. The adult learner must enroll in the ASC 180 Prior Learning Assessment portfolio class.

Student Life
NDSCS is a residential college, offering students a comprehensive college experience. In the Fall of 2022, the full-time enrollment was 1,485 students, and the part-time enrollment was 1,344 students. The total number of entering students in Fall was 1,448.

NDSCS has an open admissions policy, making it accessible to a wide range of students. The application fee is $35. The school also offers credit for life experiences, recognizing the value of learning acquired outside of traditional academic settings.

The cost of attendance at NDSCS is relatively affordable. For the academic year, the in-state tuition and fees were $5,646, while out-of-state tuition and fees were $6,606.
