Student Health Service: Your Campus Clinic and Pharmacy
The Student Health Service (SHS) serves as NDSU’s on-campus clinic and pharmacy. Located in the Wallman Wellness Center, SHS provides enrolled and eligible students with convenient access to preventative, acute, and chronic care.
Comprehensive Medical Care
The clinic offers a broad array of services to support the health needs of the diverse student population with individualized care in an environment of confidentiality, compassion, respect, and openness to each person’s story. Examples of services include, but are not limited to, cold and flu treatment, mental health management, and sexual health screening. Additional services include a dietitian, medical laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray.

Health Promotion and Wellness
The Student Health Service Health Promotion team engages with the campus community through a variety of efforts to inform, educate, and empower students to make healthy decisions that enhance success and wellness. Programs include peer education, substance abuse education, and sexual assault prevention and advocacy.

Mental Health Support and Counseling Services

The NDSU Counseling Center
The NDSU Counseling Center provides a confidential setting in which students may explore concerns of a personal/emotional nature; makes referrals; and serves as consultants for faculty and staff.

The Center for Writers (CFW)
The Center for Writers (CFW) offers free writing support to all NDSU undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. Whether you're working on a class assignment, thesis or dissertation, journal article, presentation, or personal project, we're here to help you become a more confident, independent writer. Writing consultants have experience working in a range of disciplines at all levels. Students can meet one-on-one with a writing consultant, attend a workshop, join a writing group, or simply stop by to write in a supportive environment.
Academic Advising
NDSU students work with a professional advisor their first two years on campus, or until they enter a professional program. At that time a faculty advisor is assigned. Students can find their assigned advisor in Bison Advise and can schedule with the advisor through that platform. The professional advisors are also happy to help all students explore a new major in their area of specialty at a major change appointment. Faculty advise professional-level students. Their goal is to help students prepare for graduation and a career after college. Handouts from ACE available online any time.
Financial Assistance Programs
NDSU students have access to a variety of financial assistance programs, both through the university and through external resources.
One Stop
One Stop is a student-focused service center that provides information about financial accounts, financial aid, scholarships, tuition, bill payments, class registration, and student records.
Graduate Assistant Tuition Waiver
Graduate students on a current assistantship who have met the maximum tuition waiver limit covered by the College of HHS may request an exception. This request must be approved by the student’s advisor, leader of the academic unit that houses the graduate program, and the Dean of the College of HHS.

External Assistance Programs
Several external programs can assist NDSU students with various needs:
- Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP): Helps eligible low-income families pay for child care expenses. Note that CCAP applications submitted on or after Dec. 1, 2025, will be placed on a waitlist.
- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): Provides food assistance to families within certain income limits, helping them stretch their food dollars. Participants use a ND EBT card to buy food in their local grocery store. Starting Nov. 2025, some people’s SNAP eligibility will change.
- Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF): A monthly cash assistance program for families with low incomes and children younger than 18 or pregnant women with low incomes. This program provides temporary cash assistance and has work requirements.
- Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program: Provides home energy assistance to eligible low-income households.
- Medical Assistance: Helps pay for some medical services, depending on the family's income and resources. It can be used to supplement current insurance. People younger than 21 who qualify for Medical Assistance may be eligible to get a free health and developmental check-up from Health Tracks.
- Healthy Steps (Children's Health Insurance Program): An insurance program for uninsured children who live in families with low incomes but who are not eligible for Medical Assistance.
- North Dakota Housing Finance Agency: Administers three rental assistance programs to provide affordable housing for low-income or disabled families.
Additional Support Services
NDSU and the state of North Dakota offer a variety of other resources to support students' well-being:
- Child Support Division: Helps obtain payments from an absent parent who is not paying for the support of a child, including establishing legal parenthood, locating absent parents, getting support orders from the court, and collecting child support payments.
- Children's Special Health Services: Provides assistance to children with certain special health care needs and promotes family-centered, community-based, coordinated services and systems of health care.
- Community Action Agencies: Seven community action agencies in North Dakota provide programs and services that empower low-income individuals and families to become self-sufficient, including child care, Head Start, food pantries, financial and legal services.
- Family Planning Program: Provides services such as breast and cervical cancer screening, sexually transmitted disease screening, pregnancy testing, preconception counseling, and contraceptive services. Clients are charged for services according to their household income and family size.
- NDQuits: Offers several free options to quit tobacco, including free counseling, advice and support, and free nicotine replacement products for those who qualify.
- North Dakota Department of Human Services: Operates eight regional human service centers providing counseling and mental health services, substance abuse treatment, disability services and other human services.
- Immunizations: Available through health-care providers or local public health departments to protect against serious and sometimes deadly diseases.
