NCAA Football 14: A Deep Dive into Gameplay Features
NCAA Football 14, developed by Tiburon and published by EA Sports, stands as the final installment in the NCAA Football series. Its release was overshadowed by controversies surrounding the uncompensated use of college athletes' likenesses, leading to the series' discontinuation. Despite this, the game remains a highly recommended experience for college football enthusiasts.
General Gameplay
NCAA Football 14 allows one to four players to engage in offline game modes, while also offering two-versus-two online modes. The game modes include Play Now, Ultimate Team, Dynasty, and a 2013 season mode. The game uses in-game currency in the form of coins, while performance is measured in points. Local multiplayer season play is not available. Supplemental selections include Answer HQ, EA Sports Extras, My NCAA Legacy, and the Nike Skills Trainer, which helps players develop or boost their skills.
Enhanced Visual Experience
Approximately 500 new video vignettes add more variety and excitement. Players can immortalize their greatest performances with the gameplay recording and uploading feature, which lets players choose, create, and save their own highlight videos (maximum of six) from an automatically archived list at the end of each game.
Customization and Settings
The settings still include features like Ice the Kicker and Home Field Advantage. Players can also change the settings (a.k.a. house rules), especially for penalties. Player creation includes importing the long-standing Game Face tool where players can adjust the created player’s appearance.
Ultimate Team Mode
This year players will get a new feature that will surely permeate across several EA Sports games like Game Face did - Ultimate Team. In Ultimate team, players can battle the CPU or go head to head in Solo Challenges.

Dynasty Mode
Going deep for an all-around in-depth experience? The Dynasty mode now shines the field spotlight on the coaches who now have new upgradeable skills and skill trees using experience points. Even offensive and defensive coordinators can level up. These skills predictably transfer into better performances, especially in clutch situations as players can mix and match 36 different upgradeable skills.
Road to Glory and Heisman Challenge
The largely unchanged Road to Glory mode offers an in-depth high school football experience with simplistic play calling and simulation options. Road to Glory, which also includes the Heisman Challenge, allows players to sim/skip through plays and games. Players can even skip to signing day and take a huge chance at which three schools would sign them.
Online Multiplayer
Online multiplayer modes include two versus two competitive and require a broadband Internet connection and PlayStation Network account. Local (not online) multi-player season play is not available.
Simplicity and Accessibility
Pick-up and play fans can try the 1-button, practice, and mascot mash-up game modes. The upgraded recruiting and team/game management skills activities are simpler, faster and conveniently available through an iPhone, PC or iPad. Distribute values to players from the decided amount then make adjustments (if needed) and eventually offers to get those valued prospects.
Infinity Engine 2
The impressive new Infinity Engine 2, which debuted in the Madden NFL 13 game, enhances the game even more with game-changing events. The Force Impact System offers more potential for jarring hits, realistic movements, and quick cuts on offense and defense. Other related features in this new graphics engine include running mechanics, player impacts, speed boosts, and stumble recovery where players can settle and lunge forward or recover their balance to get extra yards. Players should pay special attention to teammates because “friendly fire” interactions can be a big detriment, especially in key moments. Get in the open field and utilize the new combination moves when running to evade the defense. Tiptoeing receivers know the sidelines well, while the defense can hit low or high.

Option Plays
Choose from over 30 new option types. The option has always been a less popular play call, but even inexperienced players can succeed with optional visual options that associate the button with the on-field player option. NCAA Football 14 offers a gold mine of options and customizations for players to pursue plus endless learning opportunities that bring more excitement and enhancement to college football.
Notable Players
Players should note the jersey numbers and positions of high-ranking college stars including Arizona’s Ka’Deem Carey, South Carolina’s Jadeveon Clowney, Texas A & M’s Johnny Manziel, Ohio State’s Braxton Miller, Oregon’s De’Anthony Thomas plus Alabama’s A.J. McCarron and C.J. Mosley.
Additional Content
NCAA Football 14 also includes $10 off coupon for merchandise on fanatics.com (no minimum order) plus players can expand the experience further by purchasing Season Ticket and/or add-on downloadable content (DLC).
Running Game Upgrades
The running game has also seen a big upgrade. Running Backs (RB) can now make sharp cuts and the blocking has been improved. The Infinity Engine 2 gets a huge chunk of the credit when it comes to how NCAA 14 plays compared to previous entries.
Pre-Snap Adjustments
Other items that impacted my NCAA 14 gameplay experiences have to do with pre-snap adjustments. These adjustments are no longer accomplished with just the d-pad. Last year I loved being able to strictly use the d-pad to place say my Defensive Line on a hook zone or place my Wide Receiver on a zig route. This year some of the adjustments have been mapped-out to the controller’s buttons and it takes some getting used to, at least I find it that way. Simply put, I prefer the Madden 13 pre-snap controls.

Season Mode
For those of you like me who are not interested in recruiting or earning XP, NCAA 14 offers up a Season mode. Here you can pick your favourite team (Go Huskies!) and run through an entire 2013 season. This mode features full play by play with Brad and Kirk. Rece Davis also provides some of the around the college football world updates. For the more casual NCAA fans like myself, who are not big into things like scouting, pitch grades, and recruiting enhancements, the Season mode should be right up your alley.
User Interface
Sticking with the fast and easy theme, getting in and out of menus will be easier with the new UI. It uses big panels for the main menu selections - moving away from the sweeping, ESPN TV-inspired menus of NCAA 13. The game now includes neutral site games like the Cowboys Kickoff Classic between LSU and TCU or Illinois vs. University of Washington at Soldier Field.
New Features and Improvements
The first real improvements to NCAA 14 have been released by EA Sports and my favorite franchise on a game console is going to be better than ever this season. There are some major improvements heading down the chute and we have a nice portion of releases to start pumping you up for July 9th, which is the release date for the game.
Gameplay Enhancements
Upgrading the option: 31 different concepts in the option game, which include all the different veer options, shotgun full triple options, shovel options, the Pistol. New mechanic for option pass plays.New spread option playbook that includes more than 20 New offensive formations and 350+ plays that feature the option game.Real time physics with the New Infinity Engine and New Impact Force Engine. Locomotion improvement to improve cutting and momentum.Revamped “open field targeting” for blockers.Additional focus to the runner, with new animations and dynamics while running the football, including an enhanced trucking and stiff arm system. Also including ball carrier avoidance so that RB’s will feel their way through and around their own linemen to avoid unnecessary contact and fall down.Speed burst system to replace Sprint button as the runner can now burst through a hole and reach top end speed more quickly. The speed is not influenced by the sprint button anymore. Also, runners have accumulative fatigue meter and a stumble recovery system that allows you to either try and stay up after stumbling or fall forward for extra yards.
