When individuals first get certified as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through NASM, they often feel confident and well-prepared for their job. NASM certifications provide a strong foundation in exercise science, program design, and client interaction, equipping individuals with the tools necessary to succeed in the fitness industry. NASM empowers individuals to link their physical and mental wellbeing.
NASM offers a variety of certifications, including:

The Importance of Recertification and Renewal
To maintain the integrity and value of NASM certifications, professionals are required to recertify every two years. This ensures that they stay current on the latest industry knowledge and best practice guidelines, allowing them to keep their services running smoothly. With the commitment required to make a difference in clients’ lives, it's important to ensure that knowledge is up-to-date. NASM Certified Sports Nutrition Coaches understand the value of keeping up with the latest nutrition trends in fitness and performance. Staying up-to-date with certification is essential to keep pace with evolving scientific advancements.

Recertification Requirements
NASM and AFAA certified professionals must apply for recertification/renewal every two years. The standard recertification requirement involves earning 2.0 NASM-approved Continuing Education Units (CEUs). Professionals holding the NASM-ICPT will also need to renew their credential every two years, earning 2.0 NASM-approved CEUs. Individuals who earned the NASM-ICPT through an NASM International Partner may need to work with that distributor for specific submission instructions.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
CEU is an acronym for Continuing Education Unit. CEUs are the standard unit of measurement for continuing education courses and activities. NASM offers a wide range of CEU courses to help professionals meet their recertification requirements. NASM's Continuing Education courses can be found on the NASM website.
Continuing education courses not pre-approved with NASM can be reviewed by petition only. A $25 nonrefundable administrative fee is required for each course/event petitioned.
CPR/AED Certification
In addition to CEUs, maintaining a current CPR/AED certification is typically required for recertification. NASM offers an online CPR/AED certification. However, professionals can also meet the required CPR/AED certifications through the following organizations: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety and Health Institute, and St.
