The My Mt. SAC Portal serves as the central online hub for students, faculty, and staff at Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC). It provides access to essential information, resources, and tools needed to manage academic and administrative tasks. This guide will provide a comprehensive overview of how to navigate the portal effectively, register for classes, access financial aid information, and utilize other key features.

- Locate the Financial Aid Section: Navigate to the financial aid section of the portal.
- View Unsatisfied Requirements: Check for any unsatisfied requirements, which are documents needed to complete your file.
- Apply for Financial Aid: If you do not see any financial aid information, it is most likely because you have not applied for financial aid yet. As soon as the FAFSA/CA Dream Act application is received, your information will be available.
- Contact the Financial Aid Office: If you have questions or need assistance, visit the Financial Aid Office on the 2nd floor of building 9B or call (909) 274-4450.

- Log in to your My Mt. SAC Portal: Using your username and password, log in to your My Mt. SAC Portal.
- Check Your Registration Date and Time: Log in to your My Mt. SAC Portal to view your registration date and time.
- Plan Your Classes: Before you register, look at the Schedule of Classes or Search Online for Open Classes, and decide what classes you would like to take.
- Check Prerequisites and Corequisites: Ensure you meet all necessary requirements before you register for classes. A prerequisite is a class that must be completed before enrolling in another class. A corequisite is a class that must be taken during the same semester - so you must be sure to register for both. Corequisites are also noted in the course descriptions.
- Locate the Registration Section: Find the "Register (Add or Drop) Classes" button within the portal.
- Add Authorization Codes: If a class requires an Add Authorization Code, obtain it from the instructor. It is a 6-digit code, used once and has an expiration date. Failure to do so will prevent students from adding the class.
Understanding Key Terminology
Navigating the registration process can be confusing at first. Here are some key terms to understand:
- New Student: A student who has not attended Mt. SAC before.
- Returning Student: A student who has attended Mt. SAC in the past but not recently.
- Continuing Student: A student who has attended and been enrolled in classes in Mt. SAC recently.
- Prerequisite: A requirement (course or skill) that must be met before enrolling in a specific course.
- Corequisite: A course that must be taken simultaneously with another course.
- Add Authorization Code: A unique code provided by the instructor that allows a student to add a class, often used when the class is full or requires special permission.
Accessing Online Classes via Canvas
Mt. SAC uses Canvas as its learning management system for online and hybrid classes.
- Log in to the Mt. SAC Portal: Be sure you are accessing Canvas correctly via the Mt. SAC Portal.
- Access Canvas: In order to access a class online, log into the Mt. SAC Portal.
- Course Availability: You will not be able to access your online class unless you're enrolled. If you can access Canvas fine, but you can't see your course, your enrollment may not have been pushed into Canvas just yet, or your professor hasn't made your course available yet. Courses should appear on your Canvas dashboard.
- Attendance: Professors will drop students for not "attending" their class and completing initial activities. Sometimes, you need to login as "attendance" for online classes.
- Hybrid Classes: Hybrid classes are held both online and in person.
Utilizing Library Databases
The Mt. SAC Library offers a wealth of resources, including library databases, accessible through the portal.
- Access: Current Mt. SAC students, faculty, & staff have 24/7 access to library databases.
- Features: Numerous search features, e.g. Focus by subject (art, business, history) and/or format (journals, books, videos).
- Benefits: Information is stable. Easy to determine credibility. Can limit to scholarly literature.
Additional Resources and Information
- Student ID: Get student ID at the Bookstore( Sac Book Rac), Bldg.
- Class Schedule: Print your class schedule.
- Attendance: Attend the first class to ensure your seat.
- Online Learning: New to learning online? This web page is for you! We use a learning system called Canvas where you will collaborate with professors and classmates. Plus find links to all of Mt.
Addressing Portal Redesign Concerns
In Fall 2024, Mt. SAC overhauled the portal, touting it as a customizable dashboard with efficient data access. However, some students have voiced concerns about the redesign. The new compact design, with everything now in drop-down menus, can make it difficult to find specific information. The combination of staff and student announcements, as well as the inclusion of seemingly irrelevant features like a stock market window, have also been points of criticism.
While the intention of the redesign may have been to improve efficiency and customization, some users find the new portal less streamlined and more challenging to navigate.
