The Michael A. DeMayo Arrive Alive Scholarship: Empowering Students and Promoting Safe Driving
The Michael A. DeMayo Arrive Alive Scholarship, offered by DeMayo Law Offices, is an annual program designed to support academic excellence and raise awareness about the dangers of underage drinking and driving. For over two decades, this scholarship has provided financial assistance to local high school seniors, empowering them to pursue their college education while encouraging them to become advocates for responsible decision-making.
A Legacy of Support and Awareness
Since its inception in 2003, the Arrive Alive Scholarship has grown significantly in both scope and impact. Initially, the program awarded five $1,000 scholarships to Mecklenburg County seniors who demonstrated their understanding of how the community could help curb underage drinking and driving through compelling essays. Over the years, the scholarship program has expanded to include 10 winners, across 23 counties, each who receive a $5,000 scholarship. Over the years, DeMayo Law Offices has awarded over $825,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in our community. This expansion reflects DeMayo Law Offices' commitment to reaching a wider audience and fostering a culture of safety throughout the region.
Michael A. DeMayo, CEO & Managing Partner, recently sat down with QC Life on WBTV to discuss the scholarship’s history and how students can apply.
Addressing a Critical Issue
The Arrive Alive Scholarship is rooted in a deep concern for the devastating consequences of distracted and drunk driving. As Michael A. DeMayo states, “At DeMayo Law Offices we see the devastation of distracted and drunk driving on an almost daily basis. By raising awareness amongst our youth, it is our hope that we can make a positive impact in our community and save a few lives in the process." The scholarship program directly addresses this issue by encouraging students to develop and share innovative strategies for preventing underage drinking and driving. The Arrive Alive® Scholarship promotes peer messaging to encourage teens to avoid these dangerous behaviors.
