Established as Miami Lakes Educational Center in 1976, it has evolved to meet the changing needs of the community. In 1998, the center began offering a secondary high school component. MLEC&TC is a vocational-technical training center in Miami Lakes, Florida, and is part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. MLEC has 26 different strands spread among five magnet academies. Although the school is not recognized as a magnet program by Miami-Dade County Public Schools, it retains the ability to require students to complete an application form and may admit students from areas outside traditional school boundaries.
