Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP)

Miami-Dade County Public Schools connects students with internship opportunities to gain real-world experience. The Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) 2025 offers internships from July 1 to August 2, 2025. This program provides students with a chance to gain real-world, hands-on experience, make lasting professional connections, and discover more about their interests and proficiency along a specific career path.

The SYIP program is currently full, with students with pending job offers added to the waitlist. Support is available for parents through Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) in English, Spanish, and Creole.

Dual Enrollment Credit at Miami Dade College

Students participating in the Summer Youth Internship Program can earn dual enrollment credit at Miami Dade College. The courses available include:

CIS1949: Co-op Work Experience 1: Computer Information Systems: Designed as a work experience for students majoring in computer information systems programs.
EGN1949: Co-op Work Experience 1: Engineering: Designed for students majoring in engineering programs.
GEB1949: General Business Internship 1: Provides students with an opportunity to gain business experience while receiving academic credit.
GEB2949: General Business Internship 2: A continuation of GEB 1949, this internship provides students with an opportunity to gain business experience while receiving academic credit.
HFT1949: Co-op Work-study Internships 1: Hospitality: This course is designed to continue training in the hospitality and/or tourism management field of study through work experience.
EME2040: Creativity, Innovation, and Technology for the 21st Century Learner: The student will learn to manage a productive and safe technology environment by promoting creativity and innovation in the classroom.

The Office of the State Attorney Internship

Interns at the Office of the State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle receive orientation about the office and other agencies involved in the criminal justice system. They also receive training and/or training materials regarding professional responsibility and ethics, relations with victims and other witnesses, Judges, court personnel, police officers and the public, and in the practice and procedures of the various courts. Periodic training sessions in the office provide further instruction in case preparation, criminal law, and trial practice. The experience gained through the program is given considerable weight if a clinical program student applies for post-graduation employment with this office. Applicants are subject to a criminal background check and clearance prior to acceptance.

The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade Internship

The Women’s Fund Miami-Dade seeks dynamic interns to help advance women and girls' initiatives. The duration of the internship is from January 2026 to June 2026. The student is expected to work a minimum of ten (10) hours per week, or more depending on interest and availability. Interns support program initiatives through advocacy, research, and impact. Responsibilities include:

Engaging in legislative research, community outreach, and policy advocacy.
Conducting research and data analysis on issues affecting women and girls in Miami-Dade.
Creating and managing content across social media platforms to promote events and campaigns.
Assisting with donor relations, CRM management, and fundraising research.
Researching funding opportunities and assisting in writing compelling grant proposals.

University of Miami (UM) Resources

The University of Miami offers resources for students and alumni seeking internships and jobs. Gaining work experience during college is crucial for future career success. Open job and internship listings are available for UM students and alumni.

Handshake:

Handshake is a career services platform created for students and alumni to use in their career development. It’s used by over 200,000 employers, including all Fortune 500 companies. All UM students have a Handshake account that is automatically created for them when they enroll at the U. Students can log in to Handshake to activate their account. Handshake will then recommend certain positions based on their profile, allowing for easy searching.

Toppel Career Center:

There’s no appointment necessary to speak with a Toppel career coach. The Toppel Career Center can provide guidance and support as students navigate their career paths.
