Education A.A. Program

The Education A.A. program at LCCC provides a foundation for students planning to pursue a four-year degree in education. It is specifically designed to prepare students to teach grades 4 and above. The program's wide range of electives allows students to select courses that will fulfill the requirements of four-year colleges, facilitating a smooth transfer process.

Students who complete this program can transfer their credits towards teacher certification, with the goal of employment in middle or secondary school environments.

Program Objectives:

The Education A.A. program aims to equip students with the following skills and knowledge:

Describe the organization and philosophy of middle school and secondary education settings.
Identify patterns of human typical and atypical adolescent development and biological influences across the life span.
Analyze family culture, communication, and different family structures and how to support collaborative relationships.
Describe how to develop teaching and learning environments which integrate technology that are responsive to the needs of middle and secondary level students.
Demonstrate professional dispositions through the construction of their credential portfolio.

Early Childhood Education A.A.S. Program

The Early Childhood Education A.A.S. program prepares graduates to work with children aged birth through nine. Graduates are qualified to work as group supervisors or head teachers in early care and education programs, including Head Start classrooms and childcare centers, with children in infant/toddler, preschool, or school-age care. With additional experience, graduates can become Center Directors.

The Early Childhood Education A.A.S. program allows students to advance their careers at their own pace, with each step transferring credits to the next level. Pennsylvania offers statewide program-to-program articulation, enabling students who graduate with specific associate degrees to transfer as juniors into a bachelor’s degree program in a similar field of study at a participating four-year college.

Important Considerations:

Career positions in early childhood care and education are determined by individual state requirements.
Teaching certification in all other states is determined by their individual state requirements.
The Basic Skills Exam should be completed by the end of the A.A. program.

Most states require a Bachelor’s program for which our Early Childhood Education A.A.S. and Education A.A. degrees are designed to prepare a student to transfer into.

Students studying early childhood education at LCCC and members of the community who would like to advance their career in the field have access to Professional Development Organization (PDO) funding that will allow them to take courses at little or no cost. Potential funding is available for summer courses as well.
