Labette Community College (LCC) stands as a cornerstone of education in Parsons, Kansas, and the surrounding region. From its humble beginnings as Parsons Junior College to its current status as a comprehensive community college, LCC has consistently adapted to meet the evolving needs of its students and community. A Legacy of Growth and Adaptation
The story of Labette Community College began on April 4, 1923, when Parsons voters overwhelmingly approved the establishment of a two-year Junior College. That year, Parsons Junior College opened its doors on the top floor of the old high school building at 26th and Main. The inaugural graduating class of 1925 comprised 23 members, who completed their course of study entirely within the high school building.
In 1926, the College program moved to the new Parsons Senior High-Junior College building (now Parsons Middle School), marking a significant step in its development. The College relocated to its present campus in the former East Junior High School building at 14th and Broadway in 1963.
A pivotal moment arrived in June 1965, when voters approved the creation of the Labette Junior College District. Initially, the Parsons Board of Education oversaw the College's operations on an interim basis. However, in the spring of 1966, the Labette Community Junior College Board of Trustees was elected, establishing the College as a separate entity.
In 1967 Parsons Junior College became known as the Labette Community Junior College, following the new trends of the time period, separating Community Colleges as local, publicly funded school system, and Junior Colleges as private degree institutions.

Academic Excellence and Diverse Programs
LCC is a public community college that offers a wide range of academic programs designed to prepare students for transfer to four-year universities or direct entry into the workforce. LCC's main campus is situated in Parsons and satellite campuses are located in Cherokee, Oswego and Pittsburg.
The Associate in Science Degree in Early Childhood Education provides an excellent foundation in childhood learning and development. This program provides knowledge and understanding to the student to create an environment that fosters the learning and developmental needs of children. The courses in this program will meet the requirements for an Associate in Science Degree in Elementary Education at Labette Community College. This program is a solid foundation to understanding curriculum development, classroom management, and the elementary education school setting. The courses in this program will meet the requirements for an Associate in Science Degree in Secondary Education at LCC. Since requirements at 4-year colleges vary, students must refer to the 4-year college of their choice to determine the transferability of courses.
For enrollment, add/drop deadlines, refund dates, etc. If you submit your application/transcript(s), the Admissions Office will assist you with information regarding contacting an advisor for your major. It is necessary to complete all of the application. Some data items are essential for institutional purposes, others are required by the Kansas Board of Regents and/or State Legislature. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. International Students, complete the international student application.
Campus Life and Extracurricular Activities
Beyond academics, LCC offers a vibrant campus life with a variety of extracurricular activities. Labette Community College has academic and athletic extracurricular activities. Some of the programs available currently are: Men's and Women's basketball, volleyball, baseball. softball, and wrestling. The mascot of the school is Chris the Cardinal.

A Commitment to the Community
Labette Community College is deeply embedded in the Parsons community and the surrounding region. Parsons is a National Main Street City and a 2006 Great American Main Street Award Winner. Big Hill Lake is home to a large sandy swimming beach, hunting areas, great fishing, horse trails, camping and much more. Labette Community College renovated a 14,000 square foot, ten acre, space on the corner of highways 400 and 69, near Pittsburg to better serve the students of southeast Kansas.
