Exploring Tuition and Educational Value at Kentucky Country Day School
Kentucky Country Day School (KCD) is an independent, coeducational school located on an 85-acre campus in eastern Jefferson County. It serves students from junior kindergarten through 12th grade. KCD aims to challenge its students to achieve their highest level of academic excellence and to grow into honorable men and women of confidence and integrity. The school inspires personal growth through a diverse community and participation in arts, athletics, and community service.
Academic Excellence and Holistic Development
At KCD, the pursuit of excellence unifies all facets of school life. In the classroom, students are challenged by a rigorous academic program that teaches them to read with insight, think critically, and speak and write with clarity and precision. Small classes allow exceptional faculty to ensure that all students are actively engaged with the learning process. The arts are a vital component of a truly excellent education. Values such as teamwork, courage, and determination are often learned most memorably outside the classroom. Through a wide range of athletic and extracurricular programs, KCD provides a multitude of ways for students to grow and develop as far as their ability and determination will take them. At KCD, the pursuit of excellence takes place in an environment that stresses honor and accountability.
Kentucky Country Day School offers 15 interscholastic sports: Archery, Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Diving, E-sports, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Field, and Volleyball.
Understanding Tuition and Its Coverage
Yearly tuition at Kentucky Country Day School is $30,200. Tuition includes lunch, yearbooks, and some lab and technology fees. It includes Chromebooks (grades 5-12) and laptops (grades 9-12). Tuition only covers about 85% of the cost of a KCD education.
Financial Aid Opportunities
Kentucky Country Day School’s financial aid program is designed to assist the families of qualified applicants who wouldn’t otherwise be able to attend. Financial aid is awarded based on demonstrated need and is not associated with academic or athletic achievement. The family of any student, either currently enrolled or applying for admission, may request financial aid.

The school does provide financial aid to non-U.S. citizens, as it has found it difficult to evaluate financial aid forms and ascertain family need. Exceptions have been made if the student's family is currently living and working in the United States. In 2024-2025, $3.9 million in aid was awarded.
Families applying for financial aid must note this on their application for admission. Parents will receive their financial aid packet in February along with their child’s notification of acceptance. It is important to complete the financial aid application as soon as possible. The deadline is December 18 when applying for Early Decision and on a rolling basis after that date.
KCD’s policy is to determine financial need based on the principle that both parents-even following separation or divorce-are responsible for the education of their children. The school will consider the assets of both natural parents before making any award and cannot be bound by the assertion that one parent has disclaimed responsibility for educational expenses. If either parent has remarried, KCD will also consider the assets of the stepparent, always bearing in mind the obligation of the stepparent to his or her own natural children. It is necessary for both natural parents and their current spouses, if any, to fill out a financial aid application. Decisions about financial aid will be made only after a family has completed a FACTS application, been verified by FACTS and a child has been admitted to KCD by the admission committees. New families who receive their child’s acceptance notice on February 6 and complete the financial aid application by December 18 will receive their notification of financial aid award with their admission acceptance and contract. A family will have two weeks to accept an offer of financial aid and sign an enrollment contract.
