Program Details:

One intern is selected annually for the 12-month program, beginning on August 1st.
The intern is eligible for 24 days of vacation annually.
The salary for the internship is $50,183 plus benefits.

Qualifications and Application:

Candidates must have graduated from an accredited school of veterinary medicine. A valid California driver’s license is required. They provide formal mentorship to students and professionals who are pursuing certification in canine rehabilitation. They also welcome veterinary students seeking further education in physical rehabilitation. IPC internships include one-on-one training and hands-on opportunities to help each practitioner utilize their education and new skills in a clinical setting. They also host wet labs for veterinary student groups interested in a hands-on group learning opportunity.

Internship Experience:

The internship program is such a great opportunity to learn about physical medicine/rehabilitation - a unique and growing area within the veterinary medicine profession. The experience helped to develop orthopedic and neurological physical examination skills. In addition, interns are exposed to many different modalities for pain management and involved in long term patient care to help promote return to function. The part of the internship that impressed people the most was the positive and supportive work environment. The entire staff is so welcoming, knowledgeable and enthusiastic.

During the internship, interns are given the independence to guide their own learning. For example, they can help with an underwater treadmill appointment and, while reading the patient’s chart, stumble across a neurologic condition they were unfamiliar with. They can then wander into the office, pick up a textbook and read about the condition, then have a discussion with one of the doctors about it. The next hour, they could be sitting going through the ‘pharmacy’ researching holistic medications. They can direct their learning in any direction they wanted and everyone at IPC enthusiastically supported their efforts to learn! Interns receive one-on-one hour-long didactic lectures about topics such as neurologic conditions, common orthopedic surgeries, nutrition, chiropractic, and gait analysis.
