Healthcare Leadership Scholarships: Empowering Future Innovators
The healthcare industry is constantly evolving, demanding visionary leaders who can navigate complex challenges and drive meaningful change. Healthcare leadership scholarships play a vital role in cultivating these leaders by providing financial support and recognition to promising individuals dedicated to shaping the future of health care. These scholarships empower participants to implement innovative solutions and make a lasting impact on the well-being of communities.
Supporting Age-Friendly Health Systems
As the population of adults aged 65 and older rapidly increases, health systems face growing challenges in meeting their unique needs. Becoming an Age-Friendly Health System means reliably providing care based on the 4Ms Framework which includes:
- What Matters: Aligning care with each older adult’s health goals and preferences, including end-of-life care.
- Medications: Utilizing age-friendly medications that do not interfere with What Matters, Mentation, or Mobility.
- Mentation: Preventing, identifying, treating, and managing depression, dementia, and delirium.
- Mobility: Supporting safe daily movement to maintain function and independence.
Together, these elements represent a system-wide shift to meet the unique needs of older adults.

Scholarships are available for Age-Friendly Fellows participating in the Next Generation Leaders Fellowship. Fellows will implement the 4Ms Framework as part of their fellowship capstone project. This scholarship covers program fees for the fellowship year ($13,995) but does not cover travel or additional expenses incurred during the program.

Scholar Eligibility
The program is open to second-, third-, and fourth-year medical (MD and DO - including dual degrees), and graduate level physician assistant and nursing students who have a demonstrated interest in primary care. The 2025-26 Health Excellence Leadership Program provides $10,000 to 10 scholars. As part of the program, scholars are required to conduct a self-directed health research project over a 7-month period. Scholars identify a community-based organization where they can gain exposure and training in primary care, health research, service, leadership, and advocacy. The program also features opportunities for scholars to connect with each other during Connection Conversations. The conversations are group check-ins and advice-centered sessions focused on scholars’ progress and challenges. Scholars will select a project supervisor. Project supervisors are expected to provide guidance and support to ensure successful completion of the research project by the end of the program. Guidelines and expectations will be provided to all project supervisors. The Health Excellence Leadership Program is made possible by a generous contribution from the Brave of Heart Fund. This fund was established by founding donors at the New York Life and Cigna Foundations, and administered by E4E Relief, to provide charitable grants and emotional support services to families of the frontline healthcare workers, volunteers, and support staff whose lives were lost in the fight against COVID-19.
