The Faculty: A Blend of Academic Excellence and Real-World Experience
What sets HCC apart is its faculty, individuals who bring theory and practice to life in the classroom. HCC’s faculty, many of whom hold doctorates, teach in the classroom and are accomplished academicians, as well as successful in their respective professional fields. With more than 3,600 professors who have a passion for teaching, HCC students benefit from a wealth of real world experience that the faculty brings to the classroom. Unlike other institutions of higher learning, HCC’s faculty members are not paid to conduct research; however, they do it anyway in order to further their knowledge, change the future and help their students.
As you learn more about the quality of HCC’s faculty and the level of education they offer, you begin to understand why more students choose HCC for education and training. And, why some of the brightest minds in academics and business are choosing HCC as their teaching home.
Non-Credit Courses and Programs
All non-credit courses and programs are located in the 2025-26 Continuing Education (CE) Catalog which can be found in the catalog version drop-down list which appears before the Catalog Search box on the top right of the page. The default selection in the drop down list will be “2025-26 HCC Catalog & Student Handbook”. You may switch between catalogs at any point by choosing the desired version from the version drop-down list.
Navigating the HCC Catalog
The Catalog Search function is available on the upper right side of the page, labeled as “Catalog Search”. The first box below the Catalog Search heading is a drop-down menu where you may specify the focus of the search such as the entire catalog or only certain sections. A search box is located below the drop-down menu option and allows the user to search for key words within the option you select from the drop down menu. An option titled “Whole Word/Phrase” is locate immediately after the search box. By checking this option, the user may specify that the search contain all the words entered in the search box.

On the right side of the screen, listed after the title heading “Catalog Home”, you may click on catalog section titles to navigate to specific areas of the catalog. Within each award page, you may create a printable Degree Planner by clicking on the paper icon. The paper icon is the first icon in row of five icons located after the catalog version drop down list at the top right of the award page. Other than the award pages which include five icons, each catalog section such as Awards by Degree, Academic Information, or Student Services lists four icons at the top right of the webpage beneath the catalog version drop down list. These icons provide help and accessibility options. Clicking the star icon will save the page to your favorites. The next time you go to MyHCC Catalog, your material will be there.
Online and Hybrid Learning Options
HCC’s online degrees and certificates make it easier for busy people to earn a degree, and our partnerships with four-year colleges and universities make transfer simple! Online classes are not self-paced, so students have due dates similar to an on-campus class. Online classes do not require students to be online together at a specific time but do provide asynchronous opportunities for students to interact with each other. Hybrid classes are a combination of scheduled on campus meetings and online coursework. Successful students are organized, self-directed, and able to work well independently. Though you may be working online, you are never alone. There is always someone who can help if you get stuck!
State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA)
Department of Education requires higher education institutions to be authorized to provide post-secondary educational instruction in their states. Holyoke Community College is a member of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA). SARA is an agreement among member states, districts, and territories of the United States. It establishes national standards for the interstate offering of distance education courses and programs. It simplifies the process of taking online classes at an institution of higher education based in another state. The New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) is one of four regional education compacts and is the compact that administers SARA for institutions located in Massachusetts. Holyoke Community College (HCC) was approved by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to participate in SARA, and became a SARA institution in 2019. At this time, only California is not a member state. HCC is required to provide current and prospective online learning students with contact information for filing complaints.
Complaint Procedures
If the student has exhausted the complaint procedures made available by Holyoke Community College and the complaint has not been resolved, the student may file a complaint with the DHE by following the DHE Complaint Policy and Process. The DHE SARA Complaint Form should be used by students who are located in SARA member states and territories. This includes all students who are located in SARA member states and territories for the purposes of completing out-of-state learning placements, such as internships, clinical experiences, etc.
Commitment to Non-Discrimination
Highland Community College is an equal opportunity institution and does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, color, national origin, disability, age, religion, genetic information, marital status, veteran’s status, sexual orientation, or other factors that cannot be lawfully considered in its programs and activities as required by all applicable laws and regulations.
