Navigating the Hagan Scholarship Timeline: A Comprehensive Guide
The Hagan Scholarship stands as a nationwide need-based merit scholarship. It provides recipients with the opportunity to achieve their goals and graduate college debt-free. Hagan Scholars have attended 754 colleges and universities located in 50 states and the District of Columbia. They have studied abroad in 64 countries. The scholarship provides $2,000 to help pay for essential items to attend college and up to $7,500 each semester for up to 8 consecutive semesters.
This guide provides essential information for students in the 2026 high school graduating class. It will outline the key timelines, eligibility criteria, and responsibilities associated with the Hagan Scholarship.
Understanding the Hagan Scholarship
The Hagan Scholarship is more than just financial aid. It also provides free workshops, free Schwab Brokerage Accounts, and free study abroad opportunities. These provide recipients with a practical understanding of important life skills not typically covered in the school curriculum. The Hagan International Graduate Scholarships are similar to the Hagan Graduate Scholarships. Second year recipients will be provided with an HSF Schwab Brokerage Account to manage until graduation.
Recipients who graduate college while in the Hagan Scholarship Program can apply for a Hagan Graduate Scholarship the semester prior to graduation, good for up to four additional consecutive semesters to attend graduate school or a professional program receiving up to $7,500 each semester.
Key Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Hagan Scholarship, applicants must meet several criteria. It is important to note that there are no exceptions to the scholarship criteria.

Understanding the Disbursement Process
After September 20 award amounts will be determined and disbursed by November 1 to the recipient’s college or university. Until that time move forward as if you did not have a Hagan Scholarship. The disbursement amount will be determined each semester by HSF by taking the Total Cost of Attendance including tuition, fees, room, board, books, supplies, personal and transportation costs; then, deducting the total dollar amount of ALL scholarships, awards, grants, waivers, Federal and Institution provided Work-Study, and one-half of the recipient’s FAFSA SAI. Scholarship disbursements are determined each semester.
The return address must first show recipient’s HSF Identification Number, then Last Name, underscore, First Name; followed by recipient’s First and Last Name, Current Address, City, State and Zip Code.
Maintaining the Scholarship
The Hagan Scholarship is renewable for up to seven additional consecutive semesters if the recipient fulfills the scholarship criteria and mandatory workshop responsibilities. Funding of the Hagan Scholarship will cease upon graduation from college or after earning 140 credit hours, whichever first occurs. In such event, recipients will continue managing their HSF Schwab Account and fulfill all other scholarship criteria until their Award Year Class graduates college.
Most scholarships are lost due to a failure to earn the required number of credit hours, a failure to achieve the minimum GPA or CGPA requirements, or a failure to fulfill the 240 hour work requirement.
Recipients graduating early and not continuing their college education, and recipients who have earned 140 credit hours in less than four years based on their Official Grade Transcript will not lose their Hagan Scholarship, only additional funding of the scholarship. All other benefits and responsibilities remain intact until the recipient’s Award Year Class graduates college.
