Navigating the Gwinnett Tech Student Portal: A Comprehensive Guide
Gwinnett Technical College provides students with a comprehensive online portal designed to streamline their academic journey. This article serves as a guide to effectively utilize the Gwinnett Tech student portal, covering everything from initial login to accessing essential resources and ensuring online security.
Initial Access and Login Information
Your journey begins with accessing your login credentials. You can find your login information in your acceptance letter. The username follows a specific format: the first letter of your first name, the first six letters of your last name, and the last four digits of your student ID number. Your initial password is 'gtc' followed by your six-digit date of birth.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Setup
When logging in to the Gwinnett Tech student dashboard, you will need to set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). MFA is a more secure authentication process for connecting to a web service. Available multifactor authentication methods include a text message, a voice call, or the OKTA verify app. By requiring a text message, a voice call, or the OKTA verify app as an additional authentication requirement, MFA blocks access to criminals even if they have the student’s login information.
To setup OKTA verify you will need a laptop or desktop as well as your mobile device with the OKTA verify app installed. A QR code specific to your account will be displayed on the desktop or laptop screen as you get to that step in the setup process.
Follow the instructions below to set it up if you are logging in for the first time or you recently had your MFA reset.

If you are unable to log in with the new MFA system Contact the Gwinnett Tech Student IT Help Desk. MFA protects you, other students, faculty, staff, the school’s data, and others online.
Navigating the GTC Dashboard
Webstudents will now log in through the okta dashboard to access banner, blackboard, office 365, or other student applications. The GTC dashboard will be replacing the old MyCampus portal as Gwinnett Technical College’s new solution. This product offers a streamlined experience and much better. Students will log in through the dashboard link to access Banner, Blackboard, Office 365, or other student applications.
Orientation: Getting Started on the Right Foot
Orientation is highly recommended but not required. Students have the option of in person on campus or a live online option. Each orientation covers the information you need to get started at Gwinnett Tech. Orientation should be completed prior to starting classes. In-person and live online sessions require that you sign-up for the session and attendance is limited. You can log-in to Blackboard to complete the orientation course.
Academic Progress and Advisement
To track your progress towards program completion, Click on Ellucian Experience in your GTC Dashboard and click on the Degree Progress tile.
You are assigned to an enrollment advising team based on your major. Contacting your Enrollment Team for advisement is the best way to prepare for registration and to get assistance regarding financial aid, student records, and residency. Advisors are currently available by appointment only. The QLess app allows you to make appointments from your phone. You can view advisors for program of studies and view course information, including course.

Financial Matters: Tuition, Fees, and Payment Options
There are a number of ways to pay for college. Your total tuition and fees are based on the number of credits you take and your residency status. The academic year is fall semester, spring semester, and summer term. NelNet is only available during priority and late registration periods. Review the payment deadlines and make sure your account balance is $0.00. You may be dropped from your classes for non-payment if your balance isn’t covered by the deadline.
Accessing Courses and Academic Support
The classes you registered for won’t be available until the first day of the term. Peer tutoring and academic support for students in science courses are offered through the Science Tutoring center.

Blackboard support has let us know that they do not support the use of Chromebooks on the blackboard platform. You will get errors similar as if you try to use a phone or a tablet. Mobile devices are not supported on blackboard. You will also need Lockdown Browser for most classes. We would not recommend trying to use a chrome book as there are a lot of issues you may run into.
LockDown Browser
Students will find the LockDown Browser installation link on the testing page within your course for any test requiring LockDown Browser. After the Blackboard Ultra update of Spring 2025 semester, LockDown Browser does not work with Chromebooks or other mobile devices such as phones, tablets, or iPads. There are multiple versions of LockDown Browser. eCampus classes and some Math classes using Pearson view have their own version of lockdown browser. There are computer stations in the library on both campuses available for students. Ask the librarians which stations have LockDown browser if your test requires it.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
"The OKTA End-User Dashboard has encountered an error. These errors can also sometimes happen if the page sits idle for more than 30 minutes. From the “Menu” button in the upper-right corner of the Chrome window (it looks like three small dots), choose “More Tools” then choose “Clear browsing data… “. Make sure you choose “All time” from the “time range” drop-down menu. If that does not work, try using an incognito window. It seems obvious not to tell anyone your password, but scammers are getting sneaky in the ways they may try to get you to reveal it. Messages may claim to be from Tech Support, student services, or other Gwinnett Tech departments. Some of the messages use a name with the title of Doctor saying they are from the school. The recent messages are all taking a similar form, a blank message with an attention getting subject line but no text, the messages all contain a document. The easiest way to spot these messages is by looking at the sender. If they are from an account you don’t recognize they are likely fake. Phishing messages make things sound urgent so you will act quickly without thinking. If you slow down and look at the message you can often times see it is fake. We need to know the Subject, Sender, and Date of the message so we can purge the messages from the system.
Look in your inbox for a message from Microsoft Outlook letting you know your messages are being blocked. It will look like the image below. To prevent getting on the restricted sender list, please be careful not to use reply all on messages with a large number of recipients. The Anti-Spam policy was put in place because some student accounts were sending out large numbers of messages after the accounts were compromised. We had to make these security changes to protect everyone. Because of the increased phishing and spam attempts on the student domain we will most likely have to live with this spam filter for the foreseeable future. Please respond to messages accordingly. If you have a reason to exchange more message than this spam filter will allow a Teams group may be a possible workaround. Within the teams group students can exchange more messages than this filter will allow as well as making use of many other Teams group features. If you are a faculty or staff member we encourage you to please use the blind carbon copy or BCC feature when sending messages to large groups of students.
