GCEFCU's story began on February 25, 1948, when Federal Charter #5648 was granted to the first 11 members of Pasadena School FCU. The credit union's first Board Meeting was conducted the following month, on March 11, by five Board Members.

Throughout the years, GCEFCU has experienced significant growth and expansion.

  • 1950s: The credit union began adding other school districts to its field of membership, including Deer Park ISD and Clear Creek ISD. By December 31, 1952, assets reached $326,591. The first full-time manager was hired in January 1953.
  • 1960s: Early in 1960, the credit union reached the $1 million asset mark, and by the end of 1969, assets totaled $2,496,070.
  • 1970s: Assets more than tripled to over $10 million. Dan L. Cervenka was hired as Manager in July 1979.
  • 1980s: The credit union's name changed to Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union in February 1980. Checking accounts, IRAs, MasterCards, ATMs, and Direct Deposit were added in 1982. The League City office opened in 1983, and by the end of 1985, assets grew to over $44 million. In May 1986, the Pasadena office relocated to its present location. The credit union ended the decade with over $64 million in assets and 18,000 members.
  • 1990s: Santa Fe ISD and Pearland ISD were added in 1990, and the current League City office was built. Private schools, Texas Chiropractic College, and the San Jacinto College District were also added. In January 1995, a 10-lane Drive-In was opened at the Pasadena Office.
  • 2000s: The credit union entered the year 2000 with over 28,000 members and $135 million in assets. In February 2005, Linda Lukaszewski became the new CEO after Dan Cervenka retired. A Pearland office opened in the third quarter of 2006, and the credit union was approved for a TIP (Trade, Industry & Profession) Charter.
  • 2010s: By November 2013, the credit union grew to a half-billion-dollar financial institution. New technologies were introduced, such as person-to-person transfers, online account opening, and remote deposit capture. A fourth branch was completed in west Pearland in 2014, and the charter was expanded to include education employees of Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Liberty, Montgomery, and Waller Counties, Texas. New Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs) were introduced in August 2016, and branches opened in Summerwood (December 2017) and Baytown (January 2019). In 2019, Gulf Coast Educators Insurance Services, LLC, was formed.
  • 2020s: In the first quarter of 2020, GCEFCU opened the Gulf Coast Educators Insurance and Mortgage Center in Pasadena. In June 2020, the charter was expanded to include education employees throughout the entire state of Texas.

Loan Discounts

Members may qualify for loan rate discounts, which can be combined for even greater savings. If you have any type of insurance service through Gulf Coast Educators Insurance Services, you may qualify for a discount of 0.25% off your APR*. *APR = Annual Percentage Rate. Skip-A-Pay

GCEFCU offers a Skip-A-Pay program that allows members to take a break from making loan payments for one month. By logging into online banking and submitting a Skip-A-Pay request, the current due date on the loan will be advanced by one month for $25 per loan.

Terms & Conditions for Skip-A-Pay:

  • Must have the $25 fee per loan in the account at the time of processing.
  • Must be current on all accounts with the CU; excluding checking accounts that have not been negative for over 30 days.
  • To skip a payment on your auto loan, you must have current insurance on your vehicle.
  • You cannot have received an extension the month prior to the skip a pay request.
  • If you take advantage of the skip a pay, you will not be eligible for an extension the following month.
  • Loans secured by Real Estate, Term Loans, Credit Card, Delinquent Loans, or loans that have already received 1 extension in the current calendar year are not eligible.
  • If your loan is paid weekly, bi-weekly, or semi-monthly, the agreement will allow you to “Skip-a-Pay” for two payments during the Skip-A-Pay month.
  • New loans do not qualify for “Skip-a-Pay’s” unless three month’s worth of payments have been made.
  • Interest will continue to accrue during the “Skip-a-Pay” period, increasing the total interest charge and extending the time required to pay the loan in full.

  • Online Banking: Transfer directly from your GCEFCU Savings or Checking Account within Online Banking. Processing time is immediate, and there is no fee.
  • In Person: Visit any GCEFCU location to pay your loan in person.
  • External Account Transfers: Link an external account within the TRANSFERS section of online banking. There is no charge for this service, with payments taking up to 5 business days to post.

Wires sent from foreign countries must be sent via the foreign financial institution’s correspondent bank in the US. There is no fee from the credit union to receive a wire transfer. Wire transfers can be received the same day depending on the timing.
