Experience the Whimsical Chaos: A Grinch-Themed Breakfast at Universal Studios
For many, the holiday season isn't complete without a touch of Grinchy mischief. One of the most sought-after experiences at Universal Orlando during the holidays is Breakfast with The Grinch. Universal Studios offers a unique opportunity to dine with the Grinch and other Whoville characters during its holiday season. This character breakfast provides an immersive and entertaining experience for guests of all ages. This article delves into the details of this unique dining experience, highlighting the food, characters, and overall atmosphere.
Booking Your Spot
Advance reservations are required, so plan ahead to secure your spot. Reservations sold out in 72 hours the year we visited Universal Orlando in December. Keep in mind that both a theme park ticket to universal islands of adventure or a 2-Park Ticket and a breakfast reservation are needed for the same day. This experience books up QUICKLY. Securing a reservation can be challenging, as slots fill up rapidly. Be sure to review your reservations before you enter the park. If you can get everyone in your party up and ready, I recommend an early reservation. An early morning reservation means you enter the park early, and although the rides aren’t open, you can get some good pictures of Seuss Landing’s Grinchmas decorations before the crowds descend.
Location and Ambiance
The universal grinch character breakfast is located inside circus mcgurkus café stoo-pendous ( last year in 2023 it was moved to confisco grille while this location was being renovated but it’s BACK and I’m so glad we got the full experience). The breakfast takes place at different restaurants depending on the year. Double-check which restaurant to check in at. The circus tent themed food spot is colorful, fun and absolutely perfect for a fun character experience . While the location may vary, the staff ensures a festive atmosphere. I loved walking into the experience, because it is TRULY unique.
A Feast Fit for a Who
There was more food included than I realized! The breakfast offers a prix fixe menu with a variety of options to satisfy every palate. ***Note that Universal changes the Breakfast with the Grinch menu each year. Here's a glimpse of what you can expect:
Appetizers
Every guest or family will start with muffins and/or croissants in a basket and a fruit platter. The shared appetizer plate consisted of an assortment of mini-muffins, fresh fruit, and a bowl of yogurt and granola. It’s the perfect amount for a party of four. It’s the perfect amount for a party of four. There is nothing out of the ordinary about this, but it was fresh and a nice way to start the meal.

Entrees
In the past this meal was a buffet; now it is made-to-order (which I prefer!) My meal was good! I had chicken and waffles. This specific entrée got mixed reviews online, so I was cautiously optimistic and ended up being pleasantly surprised. I would definitely order this again. For entrees we chose the Green Grinch Pancake and the green eggs and ham plate. I loved the green eggs and ham and my daughter said the pancakes were the best she’s ever had. One, you don’t want to be too full when you have a full day of riding rides. Two, there are a lot of special holiday treats to try throughout the park, and you need to save room to try them. It was the childhood dream of this Seuss book fan to eat green eggs and ham. A plate of pesto scrambled eggs, bacon, Canadian bacon, and tater tots topped with breakfast gravy is set before me. I’m ecstatic. I’m also shocked that the entrée was removed from the most current menu. This is a Seuss staple. I’m sure there are plenty of kids and adults who dream of trying green eggs and ham. Pesto scrambled eggs are yummy, and I wish I saw them more on restaurant menus.
Desserts
Three almost-too-cute-to-eat cookies per person! We got the cutest green grinch cookies packaged up (and gluten free snickerdoodles for me). At the end of the meal, each party member is presented with a Grinch-themed sugar cookie. Though colored green, the homemade cookie is a basic sugar cookie. The texture is soft and chewy. The cookies come packaged, which we appreciated. If you are too full from breakfast, your server will bring you a bag so you can take them to go. My favorite cookie was the cookie that resembled Max’s dog treats.
Drinks
All juice, coffee, soda, and water is included in your breakfast price. You can have as much as you’d like. Our drink choices included coffee, juice, and soft drinks. The specialty-themed beverage is the Grinch Sour Apple. It is a green apple ICEE topped with whipped cream and red sugar crystals. As much as I love a themed treat, this was not a taste I craved so early in the morning.
Meet and Greet with the Grinch and Friends
Now, the most important part of the universal grinch character breakfast ? Upon sitting, we were given our postcard (aka our ticket to meet the Grinch).
The Grinch
The Grinch is the star of the show, and he certainly knows it. He’s not cruel or mean. I would say the vibe is sassy, sarcastic, diva. There are jokes and teasing. He makes sure that all attention is on him at all times. In addition to our meeting, we got to see his ENTIRE morning. Our wait was ABOUT 10 minutes but WELL worth it. The Grinch invites us to his throne area. Meeting The Grinch is a goal for visitors during the holidays at Universal Orlando. There are photo ops with the famous children’s book character during the year, but the character is in a full furry costume and doesn’t speak. During the holidays, the make-up allows him to speak and move around freely. A breakfast reservation is your best guarantee for a meet-and-greet and photo. The staff stationed at the photo spot did a great job taking videos and photos of my meet and greet with the Grinch. I do not have kids with me, but thought the Grinch and staff did a great job interacting with them when it was their turn. I really enjoyed watching. No one had a rushed meet and greet.

The Whos and Sam I Am
The Who’s walk around the restaurant in duos all throughout the meal. They interact with tables and sing Christmas carols. I loved this! Sometimes I couldn’t hear them over the Grinch’s screaming for the music to stop, but that’s ok! They were as sweet as you’d expect and very good! We also got to see Sam I Am along with our favorite characters from whoville. They wandered the venue, so we could get up to chat with them. We could also wait for them to come to our table. On the day of our breakfast, Sam I Am had his own photo op spot. There was also a fun photo setup at the restaurant’s entrance/exit.
Worth the Cost?
This is a pricier breakfast (at $62 per person as of Nov. 2023) however, if you look at the overall experience, perks, and food, you will see so much is included for that price. So, did I think that it was worth the money? ABSOLUTELY. This breakfast is a GREAT way to see the Grinch without a long wait. You could also consider the universal holiday tour for this. You are paying theme-park prices for an overall experience. For us it was worth it.
