Empowering Futures: Glenn County Office of Education Programs Driving Healthcare and Education Pathways
The Glenn County Office of Education (GCOE) is committed to equipping the next generation of educators and healthcare providers with marketable skills through a variety of innovative programs. These programs are designed to address critical workforce needs and provide opportunities for Glenn County residents to pursue fulfilling careers in high-demand fields.
Glenn 2 Greatness: A Collaborative Network
At the heart of these efforts is Glenn 2 Greatness (G2G), a newly formed network supported by an executive steering committee. This committee fosters cross-collaboration between community builders from the education, business, philanthropic/nonprofit, and civic sectors. The goal is to steward local resources and make them accessible to all Glenn County residents interested in healthcare and education careers.
G2G recognizes that effective pathway development requires collaboration among diverse partners. The network prioritizes collaboration and human-centered design in its decision-making processes. A cross-sector group of stakeholders makes collective decisions regarding the implementation and direction of grants.
Healthcare Professions Pathways Program
Healthy Rural California, Incorporated, a key nonprofit sector partner, leads the way in healthcare pathway development. Their Healthcare Professions Pathways Program offers an eight-week paid internship to students in Butte, Glenn, Shasta, and Tehama counties who are interested in nursing and medicine.
During the internship, students participate in:

Upon completion of the program, students report their experiences to a committee. Currently, the Healthcare Professions Pathways Program is training four Glenn County students, providing them with invaluable hands-on experience and guidance.
Medical Education Clubs: Bringing Healthcare Professionals to Schools
Another exciting opportunity offered by Healthy Rural California, Incorporated, is Medical Education Clubs (Med Ed Clubs). Launched in the 2023-24 school year, Med Ed Clubs are available to all interested Glenn County high schools.
The intent of Med Ed Clubs is to bring physicians, nurses, and other allied health leaders onto school campuses as guest speakers, mentors, and advocates. This initiative aims to expose students to various healthcare careers, provide them with role models, and offer guidance on pursuing their interests.
Classified Employee Credential Program: Addressing the Teacher Shortage
G2G is also advancing its education pathway with the expansion of the Classified Employee Credential Program. In July 2021, the state allocated \$125 million to expand the California Classified School Employees Teacher Credentialing Program. The Glenn County Office of Education secured grant funding to recruit and retain classified school employees into teaching careers, addressing the state’s teacher shortage in STEM, special education, bilingual education, and transitional kindergarten.
The Classified Employee Credential Program provides financial assistance for tuition at Chico State University and other accredited schools to support undergraduate education, professional teacher preparation, and certification. This program aims to provide a pathway for classified employees to advance their careers and become teachers, while simultaneously addressing critical staffing needs in local schools.

K-16 Education Pathway
Dr. Aaron Koch coordinates with the network to bridge all elements in the K-16 Education Pathway. This ensures a seamless transition for students as they progress from primary and secondary education to higher education and ultimately into their chosen careers.
UC DAVIS-GEAR UP RURAL VALLEY PARTNERSHIP
Bolstering both pathways in Glenn County is the long-established K16 Bridge Builder, Stacey Garrett, the Director of UC DAVIS-GEAR UP RURAL VALLEY PARTNERSHIP. GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded program that serves over 2,000 students in rural areas north of the Sacramento Valley.
Currently, GEAR UP Advisors provide inclusive supports and high-tech, high-touch advising in college preparation and early credit to students in three of Glenn County’s high school districts: Hamilton, Orland, and Willows. GEAR UP plays a vital role in preparing students for college and helping them succeed in their academic pursuits.
Leadership and Vision
Christine was originally appointed coordinator for this network because of her extraordinary energy, intelligence, and innovative approach to project management. Christine seeks to inspire action by living out her “Why Statement.” According to motivational speaker Simon Sinek, inspirational leadership begins with a “Why Statement.” Christine strives to be a creator of positive experiences. She enjoys fostering community connections and curating professional and personal resources so that others can thrive. Her leadership is instrumental in driving the success of these programs and ensuring that they have a positive impact on the lives of Glenn County residents.
