Freed-Hardeman University: A Legacy of Notable Alumni
Freed-Hardeman University (FHU), a private institution rooted in the Churches of Christ tradition, has fostered a rich legacy of alumni who have made significant contributions across various fields. Located in Henderson, Tennessee, FHU emphasizes undergraduate studies and a close-knit residential environment. Governed by a board of trustees who are members of Churches of Christ, the university's history dates back to the Henderson Male Institute's charter in 1869. After several transformations, N. B. Hardeman and A. G. Freed established the National Teachers' Normal and Business College in 1907, which later became Freed-Hardeman College in 1919.
While primarily an undergraduate institution, FHU extends its reach through courses in Memphis, Tennessee, and European study abroad programs in Verviers, Belgium. The university offers a variety of programs and activities, including social clubs instead of traditional fraternities and sororities, and sports teams known as the "Lions" and "Lady Lions" competing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
This article explores the lives and achievements of some of Freed-Hardeman University's notable alumni, showcasing the diverse paths they have taken and the impact they have made on their communities and beyond.
