Nicholaus Strong: Architect of a Turnaround
Nicholaus Strong's arrival at Florida National University has been transformative. His coaching philosophy emphasizes player development, strategic recruiting, and a commitment to academic success. Strong's impact is evident in the team's improved performance and the recognition garnered by its players.
Before FNU, Strong demonstrated his coaching prowess at Wiley College, where he spearheaded the recruitment of the largest incoming class in the program's history, bringing in over 45 student-athletes. As the Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the fall season, he laid the groundwork for future success.
Prior to Wiley College, Strong served as the head coach of the University of Houston-Downtown team, leading them to their first conference title and the National Club Baseball Association Division II Regional Title game in his inaugural season of NCBA play. His team's No. 14 national ranking and the coaching of an All-American, Gino Masini, further highlight his coaching abilities.

Strong's coaching career also includes a stint as a Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator for Houston Community College (HCC) during the 2015-2016 season. At HCC, he forged strong connections with local little leagues, the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers Urban Youth programs, local middle schools, and select baseball teams.
Earlier in his career, Strong served as the head varsity baseball coach at Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas, from 2012 to 2014. He revitalized the Lions baseball program, building the first high school indoor batting cage in the Houston area, hosting the first Middle School baseball signing day, and organizing baseball camps for kids in the third ward community. Taking over a program that hadn't won a game in two years, Strong led them to three victories in his first season. Notably, his former player Lance Simmons graduated from Jack Yates and went on to play NCAA Division I baseball for Texas Southern University.
Strong's coaching journey began as a Volunteer Assistant under Steve Robinson from 2006 to 2008 before becoming head coach of Jack Yates.
As a player, Strong competed in NCAA Division I baseball at Texas Southern University from 2004 to 2005. As a preferred walk-on in the spring of 2004, the Chicago native pitched his way into the closer’s role, earning his first career post-season save against Southern University in the 2004 SWAC tournament. He also played Junior College baseball at West Valley College in Saratoga, California, under head coach Mike Perez and began his collegiate career at North Park University, a NCAA Division III school in Chicago, Illinois.
Alfredo Carrillo: Building a Foundation for Success
Florida National University Baseball Head Coach Alfredo Carrillo is entering his 3rd season at the helm here at Florida National University. Coming off of a 15-36 season after a 13-29 1st season, the Conquistadors are looking to keep improving. The Conquistadors fell short of the USCAA World Series last season despite a tough schedule, they are definitely looking to get back this season.

Last season FNU played a very tough schedule, playing 24 games against ranked opponents in the NAIA and NCAA II. They also played 15 games verses teams that moved on into the NAIA World Series. “In order to get better and build as a program, we need to play the best teams in the country. We will never shy away from tough compaction. This season Coach Carrillo is looking forward to a good season from his Conquistadors. “Staying Health and being able to limit our mistakes are key” Coach Carrillo on the upcoming season. “We have added key parts to our young roster but some of our veterans have to step up this year and lead the way”.
Prior to starting the program at Florida National University, Coach Carrillo was an assistant baseball coach at Webber International University. At Webber, Coach Carrillo was responsible for the infielders, recruiting, and the Head Coach for the developmental team.

2025: The 2025 season marked a turning point for FNU baseball, guaranteeing a winning record in the regular season for the first time. The Conquistadors finished with a 20-17 record heading into their NAIA conference tournament, made their second trip to the USCAA Small College World Series in as many years, and maintained positive results in the classroom.

2024: The 2024 season saw Strong's team post over 20 wins in a season for the first time in program history, besting a 16 win season the previous year. The Conquistadors (24-30) put the USCAA on notice with a brilliant run in the Small College World Series, coming into DuBois, Pa., as the last seed. Strong also added two USCAA All-Tournament honorees (Brock Lambert, Jeremy De La Cruz) and two USCAA All-Americans (Jordan Lewis, Bastyan Hernandez) in 2024.
2023: In 2023, Strong led FNU to a program-best 16-19 finish and the team’s first appearance in the CAC Tournament. After finishing 7-40 the previous year, Strong put together a true turnaround season including five All-CAC First Team selections (Mario Benjamin-Garnett Lopez, Alejandro De Arazoza, Bellantoni, Hernandez and Sair Sanchez) and two Second Team honorees (Yordangel Gonzalez and Nick Diaz).
