Emory University Parking: A Comprehensive Guide

Emory University provides various parking options for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This guide offers detailed information on permits, parking locations, fees, and regulations to ensure a smooth parking experience on campus.

Parking Permits for Faculty and Staff

Emory University offers different parking permit options tailored to the varying needs of faculty and staff. These permits can be managed online through the MyAccount parking portal, where users can update vehicle information, pay citations, and appeal if necessary.

Permit Options and Costs

Two primary permit options are available for eligible faculty and staff members who opt for payroll deduction:

  • Daily Permit: This option costs $6.75 per day, with a monthly cap of $67.50. No action is required to remain on this plan; you will be billed for each parking occurrence.
  • Annual Permit: This option costs $58 per month. Contact the Parking Office for the discounted permit.

Evening Rate

An evening rate is available for those who park on campus after 2 pm:

  • Daily Evening Permit: This costs $1 per day, with a monthly cap of $12. No action is required to take advantage of this rate.

It’s important to note that if you park at any point before 2 pm, you will be charged the $6.75/day rate, which is capped at $67.50/month. It is possible to be charged two different rates within the same month, depending on when you park. For example, if an employee parks after 2 pm 18 times in a month and before 2 pm 2 times that month, they will be charged $25.50 ($12 evening rate cap + [$6.75 daily rate X 2]).

Checking Parking Usage

Faculty and staff can check their parking usage by logging in with their Emory NetID and password through the provided link. Employees paying for parking via payroll deduction will see the prior month's usage and charges on their pay advice. For example, the January pay advice will reflect the parking charges for December.

Keeping Vehicle Information Updated

Maintaining accurate vehicle information is crucial for permit holders. Here’s how to keep your information current:

  • Use the vehicle page located on The Parking Portal.
  • Always add any new vehicle that you plan to bring to campus. You are allowed to have up to 4 vehicles registered.
  • Edit your vehicle details if necessary.
  • Update license plate information whenever a license plate is changed.
  • Remove any vehicles that you no longer own or drive to campus.

Only vehicles listed on your MyAccount parking portal will be considered registered.

Smart Commute Programs

Smart Commute Programs and associated parking permit requirements will be updated this Fall, and details are available here.

Returning to Campus: Do You Need a New Permit?

If you have purchased a permit since August 2021, you have the current permit and do not need to do anything further. If you have been to campus recently and the gate opened for you, you have the current permit and do not need to do anything further. To confirm your permit status before coming to campus, visit The Parking Portal and attempt to register for a permit. The system will alert you of your current permit status.

Parking for New Faculty and Staff

Welcome to Emory! There are several ways to commute to Emory. Once your permit is issued, you will be able to use the ParkWhiz app to gain access to your parking location. (App is accessible by both Apple and Android devices.) If you wish to purchase a permit in person, visit the Parking Office located in the Starvine Deck, 1945 Starvine Way, Suite 400B. Office hours are Monday - Friday, 9 am - 3 pm. Fees are charged for parking decks, street parking and surface lots.

General Parking Regulations

Parking on the Emory campus requires a valid permit or is designated for visitors. It is essential to adhere to all posted signage, as the absence of a sign does not grant permission to park.

Permit Usage

  • Only permits issued by Emory Transportation and Parking Services (TPS) are valid.
  • Permits are valid for the assigned deck/lot location only.
  • Falsifying information to obtain a permit will result in suspension or revocation of parking privileges.
  • Permit ownership is non-transferable. The fine for displaying a lost/stolen or fraudulently obtained permit is $600.
  • Permits should be displayed from the rearview mirror with the Emory logo facing outward or on the dash with the entire permit number visible.
  • A permit holder may have only one vehicle on campus and occupy only one space at a time. Commuters using additional vehicles must register all vehicles with TPS and can then move the valid permit between the registered vehicles.
  • Permits are linked to specific vehicles and assigned to specific parking locations. Vehicle operators should park only in assigned areas and at the times allowed by the permit displayed.

Vehicle Registration

  • Every vehicle parked in a permit area must be registered with TPS and display a valid Emory permit.
  • All vehicles belonging to the immediate family of an employee, contracted staff, or student will be considered the responsibility of that individual.
  • Vehicles must park in a space specifically designated for parking with the license plate visible from the drive lane.
  • Permit owners are responsible for maintaining current vehicle information with Parking Services.

Restricted Parking Areas

  • Do not park in landscaped or hardscaped areas.
  • Barricades, roped-off areas, and signs for special events take precedence over general parking designations.
  • Any area not specifically designated for parking is considered a No Parking zone.

Disability Parking

In permit areas, disability parking on the Emory campus requires that the state-issued disability placard or license plate and an Emory parking permit be displayed.

Motorcycle and Scooter Parking

Motorcycles and scooters must park in designated areas and are required to register and display a motorcycle parking permit. They should not block bicycle racks or pedestrian areas and are not allowed in the access-controlled areas of Asbury Circle and Dickey Drive.

Loading Docks and Service Spaces

  • Loading docks are enforced 24/7. Blocking access to loading docks and dumpsters is not permitted. The time limit for parking or stopping at loading docks is 60 minutes with a valid permit.
  • Service spaces are also enforced 24/7 and are for marked University vehicles, exterior marked vendor vehicles, or personal vehicles with an annual permit and an Official Business (OB) permit displayed. Observe the posted time limits.

Fire Lanes

Fire lanes are enforced 24/7 and are clearly marked with signage. They are designated for emergency vehicles only and are not to be used for staging.

Bicycle Parking

Bicycles must park in designated areas and should not block accessible entrances/exits from buildings or pathways. They should not be locked to fences, posts, or emergency light/intercom poles.

Vehicle Storage

Emory's Transportation and Parking Services office accommodates student, staff, and faculty annual permit holders who need to store their vehicles during scheduled breaks. Vehicles left unattended for longer than 72 hours may be impounded at the owner’s expense. After approval from Parking Services, students may store their vehicles in designated areas.

  • Clairmont Residential: Students residing in Clairmont Residential may store their vehicles in their assigned Clairmont Residential deck.
  • Woodruff Residential / Clifton Towers: Students residing in Woodruff or Clifton Towers may store their vehicles in the Michael Street parking deck.

Fines and Citations

Fines for violations are printed on each citation placed on vehicles. Emory expects all members of the community to address fines promptly. Individuals with outstanding fines will not be allowed to purchase or renew permits/passes or make changes to parking location assignments until the fines are paid in full.
