Comprehensive Curriculum
CCMCC's curriculum is designed to provide students with the most current and comprehensive tools and technical training needed to function in a variety of medical settings. The college assists students in developing good judgment, clinical and interpersonal skills, and scientific knowledge, enabling them to function competently as a member of any healthcare team.

CCMCC offers a variety of courses, some of which provide Continuing Education Units (CEUs) upon successful completion. These courses cover a wide range of topics essential for healthcare professionals:
- Infection Control: This course reviews the importance of hand washing as the foundation of infection control. It also covers infection control programs and safety regulatory agencies, techniques used in infection control, sharps hazards and medical waste disposal laws, safety laws and procedures including fire, radiation, electrical, and chemical safety.
- Circulatory System: This course includes the study of the basic structures and functions of the circulatory system and examines the various diseases and disorders affecting it.
- Laboratory Sections and Tests: This course will cover the sections of the laboratory and the tests that are done by each section.
- Skin Puncture Procedure Techniques: This course will cover skin puncture procedure techniques, how to work with laboratory specimens in a safe way and how to care for the post puncture site.
- Blood Collecting Techniques: This course provides instruction on blood collecting techniques and processing specimens, emphasizing the knowledge and skills needed to collect all types of blood samples from patients.
- Infection Control and Hazard Control: This course will cover infection control and hazard control procedures necessary for the healthcare worker. Topics include microbiology, practical infection control, sterilization and monitoring, chemical disinfectants, aseptic technique, infectious diseases, OSHA standards, and applicable laws.
- Anticoagulation Theory: This course will cover anticoagulation theory including the basics of hemostasis, complications, disorders, tests involved in diagnosing the disorders and drugs used to treat them.
- Pre-Analytical Errors: This course will cover pre-analytical sources of error during specimen collection, transportation of the specimen, and storage of the specimen with focus on prevention. Phases of laboratory testing will be covered as well.
- Non-Blood Specimens: This course will cover procedures for collection and processing of non-blood requirements including urine, saliva, stool, semen, cerebrospinal fluid, tissue and bone marrow and respiratory tract specimens. Forensic samples and chain of custody will also be thoroughly covered in this course.
- Advanced Communication Practices in Phlebotomy: This course will cover advanced communication practices in phlebotomy in the healthcare setting.
- Modern Laboratory Technologies: This course takes an in depth look at modern laboratory technologies and the laboratory environment. It includes techniques that will assist the phlebotomist in reducing job related stress, focuses on understanding personality types and how to approach difficult situations calmly and effectively.
- Quality Assurance: This course will cover quality assurance performed in the different departments within the laboratory setting.
- CLIA and California State Laws and Regulations: This course will cover CLIA and California state laws and regulations as well as legal and ethical issues that arise in the phlebotomy profession. Testing complexity, personnel standards, patient bill of rights, consent, and confidentiality will also be thoroughly covered in this course.
