Undergraduate Admission Requirements

Gaining admission to CCS as an undergraduate student involves meeting specific academic and portfolio requirements. Here's a breakdown of the key elements:

General Requirements

Application Form: Complete the CCS Undergraduate application form. There is no fee associated with the CCS Undergraduate application.
GPA: Applicants with a 3.0 Cumulative GPA are generally admissible.
Transcripts: Submit an official high school transcript with a minimum 2.5 grade point average. Applicants having earned a GED must submit official results of the test scores.
Test Scores: Starting with applications for semesters in 2020, CCS will not require a standardized test (ACT or SAT) score. If a Test Score is submitted it will not be used to influence admission or scholarship.
Portfolio: A minimum 10-piece portfolio is required. Slides are preferred. An acceptable portfolio is one that exhibits technical and conceptual preparation for college-level work at CCS. All portfolios must include a minimum of 10 pieces; at least five of those pieces must be from direct observation. Draw from observation of objects, scenes, and people as well as from your imagination. Be original. Edit your work. Quality is more important than quantity -- 10 great pieces are better than 20 that are inconsistent. Neatly present your drawings and other work on paper. Label slides and photos of your work with your name, the size of the work and an arrow indicating the top. Time-based work may be submitted on a Zip disk, CD or videotape.
Homeschooled Applicants: Submit a detailed transcript that includes the student’s full name, address, dates and detail of courses completed, grades earned and the signature of the person who oversaw the education plan and created the document.
International Applicants: If you’ve completed coursework outside the United States and wish to transfer credits, it is strongly recommended to obtain a professional course-by-course evaluation of your academic records. International applicants whose primary and/or native language is not English must submit one of the following English language test scores: TOEFL, IELTS, DuolingoEnglish Test, SAT or ACT. Each transcript must be translated into English and must include the school's grading scale so that we may convert your academic class grades.

Major-Specific Portfolio Requirements

Entertainment Arts, Illustration, and Transportation Design: Five drawings from imagination or observation are required for the following majors: Entertainment Arts: Animation, Entertainment Arts: Concept Design, Entertainment Arts: Game, Illustration, Transportation Design.
Film: Applications for our Film major do not require a portfolio.
Color & Materials Design: Applicants to Color & Materials Design should include a minimum of six projects in their portfolio, including academic, personal and professional work.

Additional Information

Conditional Admission: The College may occasionally admit students as Conditionally Admitted if their potential to succeed is not directly reflected in their High School Cum GPA. You will be limited to taking 13 credits during the first semester of your first year of study while you acclimate to the rigors of college.
Transfer Students: Freshman or transfer student applicant requirements apply, except for the ACT/SAT requirement. Students may transfer in at freshman, sophomore or junior status. Your file is evaluated for Foundation, Liberal Arts, studio and elective transfer credit. Acceptance of studio transfer credit and placement within the CCS studio curriculum are based on a review of the portfolio and college transcript(s). Studio credit evaluations are conducted by department chairpersons. Transfer credit is not granted for any subject in which less than a C (2.0) has been earned.
Financial Aid: CCS awards scholarships based strictly on academic excellence and artistic ability. Scholarships are awarded for the purpose of assisting students with tuition costs. Eligibility for need-based financial aid is determined by an analysis of family resources for the most recent calendar year to assess a family's ability to contribute to college costs. citizen or permanent resident. for high school seniors residing in Michigan who want to be considered for state aid is February 21. continuing students should submit their completed applications by March 21. All new applicants are automatically considered for scholarship money upon completion of admissions requirements.
Important Dates: The college adheres to a reply date of May 1 for the fall semester and December 1 for the winter semester. available after the reply date are filled until the enrollment limit of a department is reached. fee. For international students, the deadline is July 1. applications and December 15 for payment of commitment fee. Enrollment commitment forms and housing applications are included with acceptance letters. of $100 and housing security deposit of $200. fee form and return it with a $100 commitment fee to guarantee space in the next semester's class.

General Requirements

Application Form: Complete the general Graduate application. After you submit the general Graduate application, you will gain access to the graduate SlideRoom portal.
Transcripts: Submit unofficial transcripts for initial review. If admitted, you’ll need to provide official ones. Request official college transcripts digitally through Parchment.
Letters of Recommendation: Provide two (2) recommendation letters. Recommenders should detail the applicants experience with or aptitude for teaching, experiences in art and/or design experience and mentorship or skills that would directly prepare them for a teaching position. They should also detail how they have gained their interactions with the applicant and will include details about the population/audience the applicant has worked with previously.
Resume/CV: CV/Resume outlining your experience and professional practice in a Community Arts, Museum, or Classroom setting.
Portfolio: Each program has specific requirements. For example, Art Education requires a portfolio of your work and an artist-educator essay. Color & Materials Design and Transportation Design require detailed portfolios showcasing your design skills. Upload items that communicate your technical and design expertise and problem-solving skills. All project design work presented in your portfolio should be exclusively created by you unless otherwise noted. (Creative work from another student participating in a group project with you should be clearly identified as not your work.

Design for Sustainability: The Graduate Program in Design for Sustainability welcomes applicants from a wide range of academic disciplines and professional backgrounds.
Transportation Design: Applicants to the Graduate Transportation Design program may be recommended to enroll in an additional year of study for their selected degree (MA or MFA) based on the review of the below materials. The recommendation could result in an offer of admissions to a 2 year MA or 3 year MFA program.
