College of Central Florida: Programs and Admission Requirements

The College of Central Florida (CF) offers a variety of programs to cater to a wide range of academic and career goals. Whether you're a recent high school graduate, a returning student, or an international applicant, understanding the available programs and admission requirements is the first step toward joining the CF family. CF is ranked in the top 1% for affordability across the United States, with low tuition rates and more than $1 million in scholarships awarded every year.

Academic Pathways at CF

CF provides multiple pathways to higher education, including associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, college credit certificates, and career and technical certificates.

Associate in Arts (A.A.) Degree

The Associate in Arts (A.A.) degree is designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year university to complete a bachelor's degree. As an A.A. student, you will complete general education requirements including courses in English, humanities, social sciences, mathematics and natural sciences. By starting with an A.A. degree at the College of Central Florida, students can save thousands of dollars on tuition and fees. CF also has university partnerships with University of Central Florida, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and University of South Florida through programs that give you even more perks while earning your A.A. Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree

The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree is a career-oriented program designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to enter the workforce directly after graduation. Upon completing an A.S. degree, students also have the option to continue their education with a coordinating bachelor’s degree. View A.S.

Bachelor's Degrees

A bachelor’s degree can open doors to more employment opportunities and higher compensation for graduates. The College of Central Florida offers several bachelor’s degrees ranging across different areas of study. There are additional admissions requirements for CF’s baccalaureate programs, such as successful completion of an associate degree. Students intending to transfer and apply for a nursing program at a university should enter CF’s Nursing B.S.

College Credit Certificates

College Credit Certificates provide enhanced skills in specialty areas, preparing students for entry-level employment and provide supplemental training for currently employed professionals.

Career and Technical Certificates

The Career and Technical Certificate is perfect for students wishing to learn the principles and skills necessary to enter into a vocation directly. A new student seeking an occupational/vocational certificate must complete the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or the Computerized Placement Test (CPT).

Applied Technology Diploma (A.T.D.)

CF offers one Applied Technology Diploma in Dental Assisting. An A.T.D.

Advanced Technical Certificates

Advanced Technical Certificates are for students who have previously completed an associate degree. They provide advanced, specialized instruction in specific career and technical fields.

Non-Credit Courses

If you’re interested in advancing your career or knowledge without pursuing a degree, we offer many noncredit courses ranging from teacher education to music to customer service.

Admission Requirements

The admission requirements for CF vary depending on the type of program you are applying for. However, some general requirements apply to all applicants.

General Admission Requirements

Application: All applicants must submit a completed application form. The admissions application takes around 15 minutes to complete.
Application Fee: At the end of the application, there is a one-time nonrefundable $30 application fee. This fee is for all applicants, with the exception of high school students applying for dual enrollment.
Transcripts:
- High School Transcripts: Your high school transcripts must include your graduation date to be considered final. If you are currently in 12th grade, request your transcripts be sent after you have officially graduated. Transcripts must be sent in the sealed, unopened envelope from your high school administration office. If you pick up your transcripts, do not open the envelope yourself.
- GED: Students must submit their official General Educational Development score report.
- College Transcripts: Transfer students are required to submit official transcripts from each institution that they have previously attended at the time that they apply or readmit to CF. To be considered official, transcripts may be either sent directly to CF from the issuing institution or be delivered in a sealed envelope sealed by the issuing institution. Official transcripts may be submitted to the Enrollment Services Center on any CF campus. In Associate in Arts degree programs, all academic work (1000 and 2000 level) transfers in as well as some 3000 level courses (depending on course content). In the cases where the content is the same, the burden of proof is on the student to provide official course outlines or syllabi. Upper division courses (4000, 5000, 6000 and 7000-level) are not applicable to the degree.
Placement Testing: Placement test scores are used to determine if preparatory courses are recommended for your academic pathway. You can request your SAT scores from www.Collegeboard.com and ACT scores from www.ACT.org. If you have not taken the SAT or ACT, you can take the PERT at one of the CF campus locations.
Residency Declaration: Florida residents receive a lower tuition rate than nonresidents. You will need to complete a form declaring your state of residence. If a Florida resident, you will need to provide supporting documentation such as a Florida driver’s license, Florida voter’s ID card, or Florida vehicle registration.
Required Documents: Depending on your application, there are several types of documents you may need to submit to finalize your application. Your list of documents required for admissions is accessible in your MyCF Student Portal after you submit your application. To view the list, go to MyCF.CF.edu and log in using your CF ID number and the password you created when you submitted your application.

Additional Requirements for Specific Programs

Baccalaureate Programs: There are additional admissions requirements for CF’s baccalaureate programs, such as successful completion of an associate degree.
Occupational/Vocational Certificates: A new student seeking an occupational/vocational certificate must complete the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or the Computerized Placement Test (CPT).
Limited Access Programs: Limited access programs have admissions processes and criteria beyond general college admissions. A limited access program is one in which both program admission and course registration are restricted to a certain number of students meeting predetermined criteria. CF Health Sciences and Law Enforcement programs are limited access programs with special entrance requirements that vary by program. Please note that admissions requirements may change occasionally. If you are applying for a Limited Access Associate in Science degree, you may be required to start via the Associate in Arts transfer pathway for the desired program.

Requirements for Specific Limited Access Programs

Associate Degree Nursing (A.D.N.): The Associate Degree Nursing program focuses on the preparation of qualified individuals without previous nursing experience to become registered nurses. The two-year program includes performance of basic, direct nursing care to clients in hospitals, nursing homes and community-based agencies. This is a limited-access program, with additional requirements beyond the general CF admissions process. Full-time classes begin at both the Ocala and Citrus Campuses in August. Full-time and part-time begin at the Ocala Campus only in January. Required testing for this program are the PERT or ACT or SAT and the TEAS. Applicants are required to maintain a 2.50 minimum grade point average.
L.P.N. to A.D.N. Nursing: L.P.N. to A.D.N.
Paramedic to A.D.N. Nursing: Paramedic to A.D.N.

Admission for Specific Student Types

Non-Degree Applicants: Non-degree applicants are persons who wish to take selected college courses without intending to complete a degree or certificate program. Many students attend to upgrade employment skills, for career exploration, teacher certification, audit, or for personal objectives. A non-degree applicant must submit a completed application and a one-time, non-refundable $30 application fee. A non-degree status student cannot be certified for financial aid or veterans benefits. Non-degree-seeking students will be allowed to register for a maximum of nine semester hours without participating in the placement testing program and any subsequent college preparatory instruction.
Transfer Students: Transfer students must be eligible to return to the last institution attended for admission to CF through regular procedures. Those who have been suspended from another institution or who have a 20 or more grade point deficit are required to file a petition for admission. Transfer students are required to submit official transcripts from each institution that they have previously attended at the time that they apply or readmit to CF. To be considered official, transcripts may be either sent directly to CF from the issuing institution or be delivered in a sealed envelope sealed by the issuing institution. Official transcripts may be submitted to the Enrollment Services Center on any CF campus. Transfer students from NON-regionally accredited institutions. CF does not ordinarily accept transfer credits from institutions not accredited by a regional accredited agency unless that institution is participating in an articulation agreement with the state of Florida or CF, as well as those institutions that are approved to use the Florida Common Course Numbering System. However, each transcript will be considered on an individual basis. The course work accepted must represent collegiate coursework relevant to the degree, with course content and level of instruction resulting in student competencies at least equivalent to those of students enrolled in CF’s degree programs. All documents must be provided before the request will be considered.
Students with Prior Suspension/Dismissal: A student who has been placed on academic suspension or dismissal and is ineligible to return to CF or the previous institution attended must file a petition for admission to CF.
International Students: Students come from all over the world to attend CF! As an international student, you’ll need to be seeking to apply or maintain an F1 student visa to study an academic program here.

Additional Information

Audit Policy: A student may register during the Schedule Change Period for a credit course on a no-credit (audit) basis. An audit student cannot change to credit status. Exceptions to the audit policy require approval of the division dean.
Background Checks: To comply with Florida state law, Chapter 402.3055, each prospective student must be fingerprinted and undergo a criminal background check, reference check and tuberculosis test. The cost of these procedures is the responsibility of the student.

After Admission

After you have submitted all required documents as indicated on your MyCF Student Portal, the CF Admissions team will be able to finalize your application. CF offers an orientation to familiarize you with CF’s student services and walk you through the registration process. Once you have completed orientation, you will be eligible to register for classes! You can select your classes within your MyCF Student Portal on the Enrollment tab. Don’t forget! You have 10 days to pay for your classes after registration until the first day of class. After that, you have 24 hours to pay for any new registration. After completing these five steps, you’ll officially be a CF student! We look forward to seeing you in class.
