EA Sports College Football 26: Release Date, Features, and What to Expect

EA Sports is set to reignite the passion of college football fans with the upcoming release of "College Football 26." After a hiatus that left fans clamoring for a new edition, the beloved video game series is making a triumphant return, promising a gaming experience that captures the essence of college football. "College Football 26" is slated for release in the summer of 2025, marking the return of a franchise that holds a special place in the hearts of gamers and college football enthusiasts alike.

A Triumphant Return

EA Sports' commitment to the college football video game series is unwavering. "College Football 26" will be available this summer, EA Sports announced Thursday. This announcement follows the successful re-launch of the series in 2024, with "College Football 25," which ended a long wait since the last release in 2013. The previous title, "NCAA Football," was discontinued due to a lawsuit settlement concerning the use of college players' name, image, and likeness (NIL) without their consent. The return of the series was made possible by changes in the rules surrounding NIL and college athletes.

A Record-Breaking Comeback

The release of "College Football 25" in July 2024 was a resounding success. The game quickly became one of the highest-selling video games of all time, demonstrating the enduring popularity of the franchise. After 2.8 million players bought the game at launch, "College Football 25" became the highest-selling video game of all time in the United States in November. It retained popular features like Dynasty Mode and Road to Glory, while also incorporating new elements such as the College Football Playoff and conference expansion. For the first time, practically every player in FBS had their name featured in the game, thanks to NIL deals with over 10,000 FBS players.

College Football 26 Release Date and Access

College Football 26 launches worldwide on July 10, 2025.

Fans eager to get their hands on the game can look forward to the wide release of "College Football 26" on Thursday, July 10. For those who can't wait, early access will be available starting Monday, July 7, for those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition or MVP Bundle.

Cover Athletes and Speculation

The selection of cover athletes is always a topic of much speculation and excitement. Last year's game featured Colorado's Travis Hunter, Texas' Quinn Ewers, and Michigan's Donovan Edwards. If EA Sports continues to feature current college football stars, potential candidates for "College Football 26" include Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith, Texas' Arch Manning, and Notre Dame's Jeremiyah Love.

Closed Beta Insights

Before the official release, a closed beta version of "CFB 26" was available to select players from June 6-8. This early access provided valuable insights into the changes and improvements being made to the game. While not everything from the beta will be included in the final version, it offered a glimpse into the gameplay and tweaks to popular modes like Dynasty and online head-to-head. Cross-play between PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles will be available this time.

Noteworthy Changes and Improvements

The closed beta revealed several significant changes and improvements. Dynamic substitutions allow gamers to switch players on and off the field before the snap, offering greater control over gameplay. Improvements to the transfer portal, which frustrated fans in "CFB 25," have also been implemented. The return of the trophy room to showcase players' accomplishments has been well-received. Customization options for created players and coaches have been expanded. Several teams will feature more true-to-life elements, such as Florida State's pregame entrance.

Behind-the-Scenes Enhancements

In addition to the visible changes, there are also significant behind-the-scenes enhancements. Players who opt into the game will receive at least $1,500 and a Deluxe Edition of the game, more than double what they received last year. Schools will also receive royalties based on how much gamers play with them in "CFB 26."

Pricing and Editions

The Standard Edition of "College Football 26" will be priced at $69.99. The Deluxe Edition will cost $99.99, while the MVP Bundle, which includes the Deluxe Edition of both "CFB 26" and "Madden 26," will be available for $149.99.
