Arriving at Colby: Check-in and Transportation from Portland
Check-in Procedures
For the academic year 2025-2026, first-year students will arrive on campus on Thursday, August 28, 2025, and will first go to the Harold Alfond Athletic & Recreation Center (HAARC). Check-in will take place between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM during designated arrival windows. Students must arrive at the designated arrival window to ensure a smooth and efficient check-in process across campus. While at the HAARC, students will check in with members of the Office of Residential Experience and receive their student ID and key(s).
All returning students (sophomore, junior, and senior class year) will check in at the lobby of Grossman Hall (DavisConnects) on Monday, September 1, 2025, and Tuesday, September 2, 2025. Check-in will begin at 8:30 AM (EST) and will end at 4:30 PM each day. To ensure a smooth and efficient check-in process, arrive and immediately check in before traveling to your assigned residence hall room. All students will be required to provide their student ID at check-in, so please make sure to have this available.
Fall pre-season athletes must first be approved for early arrival through Colby Athletics. The names of approved student-athletes will be provided directly to the Office of Residential Experience. All approved fall semester pre-season athletes will arrive during the following dates/windows of time (as determined by Colby Athletics). When arriving on campus, please prioritize the check-in process to ensure you receive your residence hall key(s) and any additional information necessary for a smooth and efficient process.
Students must first check-in with the College prior to moving into their fall assignment. Students are strongly encouraged to arrive within the designated times above to ensure all aspects of check-in can occur efficiently and effectively. We understand that some students might face extenuating circumstances preventing this. Unfortunately, due to the significant processes required to prepare the College for student arrival and the fall semester, the College is not accepting requests for early arrival. Only students who are sponsored for fall pre-season athletics, designated student leader position training, or Pre-Orientation participants will be approved for on-campus housing prior to move-in. Students, families, and support persons must determine what possible options and alternatives might exist outside of arriving early on campus.

Colby College has storage rooms located in several of the residence halls across campus. These spaces are known as Trunk Rooms and are only utilized for storage when students study abroad, and/or at the end of the academic year (over the summer). All items must be removed by the second Thursday following the start of the Fall Semester (September 11, 2025). Any items remaining in trunk rooms after this date (with the exception of those with prior approval, such as study abroad and leave of absence status) will be removed and discarded without notice. There will be staffing available to help support students with access to trunk rooms on September 1 and September 2. Community Advisors work to provide support in accessing trunk room spaces for students throughout returning student arrival.
