Navigating Access to Davis Library and UNC Resources for Visitors

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) offers a wealth of resources and opportunities, and while access is primarily designed for students, faculty, and staff, visitors can also benefit from certain provisions. This article outlines how visitors can navigate access to Davis Library, as well as other campus resources and perks available at UNC.

Accessing Davis Library

Davis Library, the main library on campus, has specific policies regarding visitor access. While the building is primarily for UNC students, faculty, and staff, visitors can access certain areas and resources. The Music Library, located on the third floor of Davis Library, extends access to visitors, allowing them to utilize CD players, headphones, and record players.

Digital Resources

The libraries provide free digital subscriptions to news outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post. Access to these resources may be limited for visitors and is typically granted to students, faculty, and staff.

Campus Events and Athletics

Carolina athletics are a significant part of the campus community. Although students receive free access to all athletic events (excluding football and men’s basketball) by presenting their One Card, visitor access to these events may require purchasing tickets. Faculty and staff can receive four free regular-season tickets to any Carolina home sporting event, except for football and men’s basketball games, by presenting their One Card at the gate.

Carolina Performing Arts provides a 25% discount on all tickets for faculty and staff members who appreciate the arts. Students can also purchase tickets for $11. The PlayMakers Repertory Company offers $10 tickets to students and a 15% discount for faculty and staff.

Fitness Facilities

While students have full access to campus recreational facilities, many fitness perks also extend to Carolina’s faculty and staff. Permanent employees can access facilities like Fetzer Hall, Woollen Gym, Rams Head Recreation Center, Bowman Gray Indoor Pool, and Kessing Outdoor Pool for a monthly fee. Temporary employees also have access to membership options, and the facilities offer options for spouses or domestic partners as well.

Transportation

GoPass transit offers service routes through Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, and other parts of the Triangle.

Store, Restaurant, and Entertainment Discounts

Off-campus, a variety of retailers offer discounts for Carolina students, faculty, and staff. These include discounts at stores like Goodwill, restaurants like Moe’s Southwest Grill, and entertainment venues like AMC Theaters.

Undergraduate Library’s Makerspace

Students, staff, and faculty have access to the Undergraduate Library’s Makerspace, empowering them to explore emerging technologies such as 3D printing and imaging for all types of creative projects.
