Berklee alumni who are primarily working in performing arts or entertainment report higher levels of career satisfaction than those working in positions not related to performing arts or entertainment.
Graduates’ satisfaction with and likelihood to recommend Berklee have slightly increased from 2018 to 2019 after a several year decline.
Alumni report higher satisfaction with their program of study and professors, and lower satisfaction with career and entrepreneurial preparation. Alumni suggest the creation of more business, marketing, personal finance, and brand-building courses to help students, particularly since many (55 percent) become self-employed/freelancers.
Like global and national trends, Berklee alumni experience gender and race/ethnicity wage gaps. On average, women report lower incomes than men, and non-white alumni report lower incomes than white alumni.

Methodology Behind the Statistics

Since 2016, Berklee has conducted a graduating student survey that collects feedback from graduates about their experiences at Berklee and their initial career plans. The survey is administered in the weeks around graduation. However, at this time, a large number of students are either unsure of their future plans or still planning to complete one more semester at Berklee. As a result, there is limited information collected about the early career outcomes of Berklee’s graduates. In 2019-20 Berklee only captured early career information on 33 percent of its graduates.

In spring 2022, the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment and the Career Center partnered on a project to conduct outreach and research to identify career outcomes within 18 months of graduation. If a graduate is employed, self-employed, or in an internship, they are counted in that category, even if they are also a student or seeking employment. All graduates who are students and not employed, self-employed, or in an internship are counted in the student category. All graduates who are only seeking employment or unemployed are counted in that category.
