Bellevue College Parking: A Comprehensive Guide

Navigating parking at Bellevue College requires understanding the various permit options, parking locations, and regulations. This guide provides detailed information for students, employees, and visitors to ensure a smooth parking experience.

The Environmental Impact of Driving and Alternative Solutions

Driving to campus alone significantly contributes to Bellevue College's greenhouse gas emissions. To mitigate this impact, the college encourages alternative transportation methods such as carpooling and vanpooling.

Carpooling

Carpooling offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to commute. By sharing a ride with others, you can save on gas and parking expenses. Bellevue College incentivizes carpooling by offering premium, reserved parking spots on the first floor of the parking garage for carpools of three or more people. To register a carpool, bring your group to Public Safety at B132, located beside Print Services. Only one parking permit is required per carpool, with the cost split among the members.

Vanpool

For those with longer commutes or dissatisfaction with driving alone, vanpooling presents another viable option. King County Metro Rideshare provides resources to help you join a group of professionals and save money by commuting in a van. Explore existing vanpools in your area or recruit riders to start your own.

Parking Permits: Types, Regulations, and Acquisition

A valid Bellevue College permit, disability placard/license plate, or government agency license plate is required to park on campus. The vice president of administrative services or their designee is authorized to issue parking permits, and the board of trustees establishes parking permit fees. For represented employees, fees are determined by collective bargaining agreements.

Displaying Permits

Permits issued by the Public Safety office must be displayed according to the provided instructions. Failure to do so will result in a citation.

Types of Parking Permits

Bellevue College offers various parking permit types to accommodate different needs:

  • Carpool Permits: Available to faculty, staff, or students who carpool. One permit is issued per carpool and can only be used by registered members. Carpool vehicles must also display a regular student or employee permit.
  • Daily and Hourly Permits: Can be purchased at the Public Safety office or designated locations across campus.
  • Employee Permits: For faculty and staff of Bellevue College. Registered volunteers are also eligible.
  • Discount Student Permits: Available to students and valid in general parking lots.
  • Guest Permits: Temporary permits issued to college guests, such as guest speakers, job candidates, or visiting officials.
  • Motorcycle Permits: Issued by the Public Safety office for motorcycles.
  • Special Events: Reserved parking for conferences, seminars, and other special events can be arranged through the Events Office or Public Safety. Requests should be submitted at least 10 business days in advance.
  • Student Permits: For students of Bellevue College.

Transfer and Reissuance of Permits

With the exception of carpool permits, parking permits are non-transferable. If you sell or trade your vehicle, you can retain your permit and use it on a different vehicle after updating your vehicle information with the Public Safety office. Permits may be reissued as authorized by the director of Public Safety.

Parking Permit Refunds

Employee and student permit holders can request a partial refund from Public Safety if a permit is no longer needed. Refund amounts are based on the following schedule:

  • 100% refund (less $5): Refund form received by the fifth instructional day of the quarter.
  • 50% refund: Refund form received between the sixth and 20th instructional days of the quarter.
  • No refund: Refund form received after the 20th instructional day of the quarter.

The parking permit document, card, or sticker must be returned with the refund form for the refund to be processed.
