The Edge Program: A Deep Dive into Technology & Global Services

The Edge Program is specifically designed to attract highly motivated undergraduates seeking practical work experience within Technology & Global Services (TGS), encompassing Information Technology, Business Process, Shared Services, and EPMO.

What to Expect as an Edge Intern

As an intern, you can expect projects that are both challenging and rewarding. You will work under the management of a BD associate who serves as your coach to aid and assist in your transition into the corporate environment. As part of the broader BD Intern Program, Edge Interns participate in various networking events, career development sessions and team building activities. Summer Interns who demonstrate solid performance and exhibit promising potential at BD will be considered as candidates for BD’s rotational Edge Program, upon successful completion of their bachelor's degree!

The Edge Program Summer Internship enhances BD’s organizational vitality by developing a pipeline of candidates for the full-time 3-year rotational Edge Program. The vision of the Edge Program and its rotations are to empower early-career professionals through immersive learning focused on technology enabled business solutions.

Practical Information for Edge Interns

All interns will be located at our Global Headquarters in Franklin Lakes, NJ and start on Monday, June 2, 2025. This is not a remote position. BD’s current workplace policy reflects a hybrid work schedule of 3 days in office, 2 days remote.

To qualify for this position, applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the US. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment Visa at this time. For certain roles at BD, employment is contingent upon the Company’s receipt of sufficient proof that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. In some locations, testing for COVID-19 may be available and/or required. Procurement Department Internship

Under the leadership and direction of staff within the Procurement Department, this semester long internship will offer the opportunity for a student to gain solid purchasing, sourcing, product development, and supplier management experience by working in a dynamic environment for a leading global medical device company.

The Procurement department is responsible for purchasing complex components, assemblies, finished goods and services for new product development and manufacturing support. This intern will provide support and customer service for internal cross-functional teams while complying with our sourcing and corporate procedures. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is highly motivated to grow within the organization in the future and thrives on an environment of creativity and accountability.

This individual will assist in the areas of sourcing, quoting, tracking, and monitoring purchase orders for new product lines in development, as well as contribute to the development and implementation of streamlined department processes. In addition, this individual will help assess future opportunities for reducing costs of materials and services throughout the division.

The Procurement Intern will also participate in weekly project meetings, quarterly all employee meetings, attend other company meetings, and participate in several 1:1 meetings with the leadership at the division to discuss career options in the medical device field.

Responsibilities of a Procurement Intern

  • Placing and expediting purchase orders for on-time delivery with our suppliers
  • Process mapping with recommendations on efficiencies in several areas of operations and purchasing
  • Assist in cost improvement projects
  • Perform Make vs. Buy and other strategic analysis and present recommendations to management
  • Support key audits during the semester
  • Interact with ERP/MRP Systems (JDE)

Qualifications for a Procurement Internship

  • Business major (Supply Chain Management preferred) or equivalent undergrad
  • Excellent personal communication skills
  • Must have the ability to work on several projects simultaneously
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment of accountability
  • Must be able to analyze data/make data-based recommendations
  • Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Software applications and web-based systems a plus
  • Exceptional drive to pursue a career in medical device

  • The Climber Leadership Development Program: A 2.5-year rotational program for new grads with a BS or MS in engineering.
  • The Edge Program: A 3-year rotational program for new grads with a BS in MIS, IT or related major. The Edge Internship Program is for students who have completed their junior year in MIS, IT or related major and is used as a pipeline for the The Edge Program.
  • The Engineering Development Program (EDP): A 3-year rotational program for new grads with a BS or MS in engineering.
  • The Finance Leadership Development Program (FLDP): A 2-year rotational program for new grads with a BA/BS in accounting, finance or related field; the FLDP Summer Analyst Internship is for students who have completed their junior year in accounting, finance or related field.
  • The Quality Development Program: A 3-year rotational program for new grads with a BS in engineering or sciences. QDP develops future leaders for the Quality Organization through hands-on engagement in diverse quality assignments and building a strong network with key partner functions.
  • The Manufacturing Development Program’s (MDP): is a three year rotational program for new grads with a BS or MS in engineering.
