The ASU Mobile ID is a digital version of the traditional physical ID card, accessible through the ASU Mobile App on smartphones and Apple Watches. It offers enhanced security and privacy features, allowing users to conduct transactions and access buildings with ease.
Eligibility and Requirements for ASU Mobile ID
Students, faculty, staff, and approved affiliates who use campus services are eligible for the ASU Mobile ID if they meet certain device and software requirements:
- Employees must be active.
- Multi-factor authentication enabled through DUO Two-Factor Authentication.
- Students must be enrolled in at least one course and on campus.
- Users must download the ASU Mobile App to their phone and log in with their ASURITE.
Device Requirements
- Apple:
- An Apple ID signed into iCloud.
- iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus or later - running iOS 13 or later.

The ASU Mobile ID in Apple Wallet is an initiative of Sun Devil Card Services whereby your iPhone and Apple Watch can take on the functionality of your ASU ID Card. Anywhere you can swipe a card, you can use your iPhone or Apple Watch.
To add your ASU Mobile ID to your Apple Wallet, follow these steps:
- Download the ASU Mobile App and log in.
- Enable Duo Two-Factor Authentication.
- Ensure you have an approved photo on file.
- Select "Add to Wallet" to set up your ASU Mobile ID.
Using the ASU Mobile ID
The ASU Mobile ID can be used in the same way as a physical card, by tapping the reader with your phone instead of swiping or tapping your card. The near-field communication antenna must directly face the reader to activate the ASU Mobile ID on your devices successfully. The NFC antenna location varies by device manufacturer and model.

- Compatibility: The ASU Mobile ID can be used at off-campus merchants where Maroon and Gold Dollars are accepted.
- Express Mode: On iPhone XS, XS Max, XR and more recent devices, Express Mode with power reserve is available for up to five hours after the device’s battery needs to be charged. You must authenticate when you access your phone if you are not using Express Mode. This is a user security preference. Note: Express Mode is turned on by default.
Managing Your ASU Mobile ID
What to Do If Your ASU Mobile ID Is Not Pairing with the Reader
The near-field communication antenna must directly face the reader to activate the ASU Mobile ID on your devices successfully. The NFC antenna location varies by device manufacturer and model. Press the side button to check if Express Mode is available when your iPhone needs to be charged. Doing this often may significantly reduce the power reserve for Express Mode. This feature will not be available if you power off your iPhone.
Android, iPhone 6 or 6 Plus-iPhone X: Your device must have battery power to use the ASU Mobile ID.
Managing Multiple Devices
Apple: Up to two devices, one iPhone and one Apple Watch, can be signed into iCloud with the same Apple Account.
Replacing Your Device
If you get a new device:
- Remove your ASU Mobile ID from the old device.
- Add your ASU Mobile ID to the new device using the ASU Mobile App.
Lost or Stolen Devices
If you lose your iPhone or Apple Watch:

- Your other device will continue to work; however, you should mark the missing device as lost through your iCloud account until it is found.
Once the device is located, you can reactivate the ASU Mobile ID through your iCloud account or contact SDCS if deactivated through the office.

Obtaining a Physical ID Card
Physical cards will not be issued without a valid exemption request. If you do not have a mobile-compatible device, you will need a physical ID card. Please contact Sun Devil Card Services to request a physical, printed ID card.
Fee Waivers
Foundation employees, military faculty and religious affiliates: Your first ID card fee is waived. The $25 ID card fee may be waived if the cardholder presents Sun Devil Card Services staff with a valid police report at the time of the new card request.
