Unlocking Savings: A Comprehensive Guide to Apple's Education Discount Eligibility
For students and educators alike, technology plays an increasingly vital role in the learning process. Apple, recognizing this, offers an education discount on a range of its products, including MacBooks and iPads, through the Apple Education Store. This article provides a comprehensive guide to understanding eligibility for the Apple Education Discount, navigating the purchasing process, and maximizing your savings.
Who is Eligible for the Apple Education Discount?
Apple's education pricing program extends beyond just college students. Eligibility includes:
- Higher Education: Faculty and staff of Higher Education institutions in the United States; and students attending, or accepted into a Higher Education institution in the United States are eligible to purchase.
- K-12: Any employee of a public or private K-12 institution in the United States is eligible, including homeschool teachers. In addition, school board members who are currently serving as elected or appointed members are eligible.
It's important to note that Apple routinely audits purchases made through the Apple Store for Education to ensure all purchase conditions have been observed.
What Products are Discounted?
The Apple education discount enables you to save on devices you need for school, such as Macbooks and iPads. Apple offers student discounts on its most popular education devices, such as MacBooks (MacBook Air and MacBook Pro), iPads (iPad Air and iPad Pro), and desktop Macs (iMac and Mac mini). While Apple does not offer student discounts on iPhones through its education pricing program, the program is mainly focused on Macs, iPads, and certain accessories, which are considered more directly related to educational use.
How Much Can You Save?
The savings with the Apple student discount vary by product, but generally, you can expect to save up to 10% on MacBooks and iPads. In other words, you can get up to $200 off on a new MacBook and up to $100 off on a new iPad. Student discounts are available all year round at the Apple Education Store. The discount is not great, but it could save you a couple hundred if you're buying a brand new computer plus the shipping as always is free.

Navigating the Apple Education Store
Getting the Apple education discount is a simple process that can be done online or in-store.

- Browse the selection of discounted products.
- Look for the Education Savings symbol.
- Select the device you wish to purchase.
- Customize it by choosing specifications such as storage capacity, RAM, color, and other features.
- Add your product to the bag. The discounted prices should be applied automatically.
- After selecting all your desired items, review your bag. Ensure that the student discount has been applied to all eligible products.
- Proceed to checkout to finalize your purchase.
Purchase Limits
Apple only lets you buy a limited number of products with the education discount.
- Mac: You can purchase one MacBook (MacBook Air, MacBook Pro) or one desktop Mac (iMac, Mac mini).
- iPad: You can purchase one iPad (iPad Air, iPad Pro).
- Accessories: You can purchase up to two accessories (Apple Pencil, Magic Keyboard).
Back to School Promotions
Apple often includes free AirPods as a bonus when you buy a Mac or iPad during their back-to-school promotions, which usually run from June through September. Some years, instead of AirPods, Apple gives students a gift card that can be used toward future Apple purchases, including AirPods.
Additional Considerations: Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI)
Monthly pricing is available when you select Apple Card Monthly Installments (ACMI) as payment type at checkout at Apple and is subject to credit approval and credit limit. Financing terms vary by product and are not included in ACMI and are subject to your card’s variable APR. ACMI is not available for purchases made online at special storefronts. The last month’s payment for each product will be the product’s purchase price, less all other payments at the monthly payment amount. ACMI financing is subject to change at any time for any reason, including but not limited to, installment term lengths and eligible products.
If you buy an ACMI-eligible product with a one-time payment on Apple Card at checkout, that purchase is subject to the Apple Card’s variable APR, not the ACMI 0% APR.

Returns and Refunds
We fundamentally believe you will be thrilled with the products you purchase from the Apple Store. That’s because we go out of our way to ensure that they’re designed and built to be just what you need. We understand, however, that sometimes a product may not be what you expected it to be. For iPhone returns, you may return your undamaged iPhone with its included accessories within 14 days of purchase for a full refund. Here’s the important part: returning your iPhone may not automatically cancel or reset your wireless account; you are responsible for your wireless service agreement and for any applicable fees associated with your wireless account. For any other undamaged product, simply return it with the original receipt (or gift receipt) and original packaging within 14 days of the date you receive the product. If the item is returned within this timeframe, we’ll exchange it or offer a refund based upon the original payment method. Opened software cannot be returned if it contained a seal with the software license on the outside of the package and you could read the software license before opening its packaging. As an exception, you may return Apple-branded software if you do not agree to the licensing terms; however, you may not retain or otherwise use any copies of returned software.
