From detailed training series to on-demand courses and live webinars, the platform provides flexible and accessible learning options to suit diverse needs and schedules.
Comprehensive Learning Opportunities
AISC provides various learning formats, including live webinars, on-demand courses, and detailed training series, ensuring that professionals can access education in the method that best suits their learning style and schedule.
Live Webinars
AISC regularly presents daytime webinars throughout the year, each typically running for 90 minutes and offering 1.5 professional development hours (PDHs). These webinars are available for both group and individual participation, providing a convenient way to stay updated on the latest industry trends and best practices.
Night School
For those seeking a more in-depth exploration of specific steel topics, AISC offers "Night School." Each course consists of eight 90-minute sessions, providing a deep dive into a single steel topic or theme. Participants can earn up to 12 hours of PDH credit upon completion. Recognizing that evening time slots may not suit everyone's schedule, AISC offers a flexible registration option. This allows both groups and individuals to view session recordings for up to four weeks following the last live session of the course. To receive PDH credit for the recorded version, participants need to take and pass the quiz.
On-Demand Courses
On-demand courses are recordings of past live webinars and Steel Conference sessions. Users can purchase a course for recording and quiz access. After passing the quiz, they will receive PDH credit. Free, view-only recordings of Steel Conference sessions are found under Conference Recordings and Papers.

Specialized Training Programs
AISC offers specialized training programs designed to address specific skill sets and knowledge areas within the steel industry.
AISC Detailer Training Series
Originally developed in 2000 by AISC and the National Institute of Steel Detailing (NISD) as a series of 12 CDs, the AISC Detailer Training Series is now available as a free online course, thanks to funding from the Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust (IMPACT). This course provides an introduction and overview of the roles and responsibilities of the steel detailer. The program consists of 10 modules, most with multiple parts. Each part includes a series of videos, followed by a quiz pertaining to the concepts covered in that section. After completing all 10 modules, which takes approximately 120 hours, the user may take a final exam.
Fabricator Education Training Program
The Fabricator Education Training Program is designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of fabrication professionals. The training comes in the form of online training courses featuring award-winning video-based content. Learners will watch fabrication professionals instruct and mentor new and experienced fabricators who are just like them. The courses are grouped into curricula based on shop experience and skills. Access to this training is exclusive to AISC full members.
The Fabricator Fundamentals curriculum covers fabricator basics, with 14 online courses totaling five hours of training. Those courses range from 10 to 45 minutes each. The Fabricator Basics courses focus on an employee’s first 90 days and demonstrate how to do essential tasks. The welding curriculum covers many of the basics of sound welding procedures. The torch cutting curriculum covers many of the basics of sound torch cutting procedures. Coming in late Spring 2026, our new quality control inspections courses instruct on multiple facets of inspections including layout and fitup, welding, and materials. Presented mostly in video segments, the training follows the journeys of several employees as they learn about fabrication from trusted mentors. The Fabricator Education Training Program can help new hires arrive at in-person learning sessions having more familiarity with their job. Additionally, it can prepare the training staff for some questions trainees might ask. AISC member fabricators can access the program at no additional cost. Our online training courses don't require a special computer to view them.
