AIMS College Prep: Empowering Inner-City Students Through Comprehensive Education

AIMS College Prep is dedicated to providing comprehensive educational opportunities to inner-city students, spanning from kindergarten through high school. With a strong emphasis on academic excellence, college preparation, and closing the opportunity gap, AIMS strives to ensure that all students have the chance to succeed in college and beyond.

AIMS College Prep High School

AIMS College Prep High School serves 432 students in grades 9-12. The school's focus is on excellent student attendance (97%), which helps ensure their academic success. AIMS High School received the A-G Quality School Award from Families in Action for Quality Education to honor the 100% completion rate of A-G requirements for Black and Latinx students in our district.

STEAM Approach and College Preparation

AIMS High School uses the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math) approach with a special focus on closing the opportunity gap for our socio-economically disadvantaged students. AIMS believes students should have equal opportunity to attend college and every year we ensure 100% of our AIMS High School students are accepted into 4- year colleges or universities.

AIMS College Prep Middle School

AIMS College Prep Middle School serves 212 inner-city students from grades 6 - 8. The focus of AIMS Middle School has been excellent student attendance (99.5%), which helps ensure the academic needs of our students. AIMS Middle School received the Blue Ribbon Award, which is given to the top 200 schools in the nation. They received the CAPP Award for innovative practices during the pandemic.

Student Demographics

AIMS Middle School is a vibrant and diverse learning community, reflecting a rich tapestry of cultures and backgrounds. The student body includes 38.7% Asian, 34% African American, and 11.8% Hispanic students, alongside smaller but meaningful representations of White (5.7%), Filipino (1.4%), Two or More Races (3.8%), American Indian (0.5%), and Pacific Islander (0.5%) students.

AIMS College Prep K-8

AIMS College Prep K-8 now serves over 620 inner-city students from grades K-8. The focus of AIMS K-8 has been excellent student attendance (99.5%), which helps ensure the academic needs of our students. AIMS K-8 received the CA Distinguished School Award for excellent academics and for closing the achievement gap. They attained the CAPP Award for innovative practices during the pandemic. Our students have exceeded the standards set forth by the No Child Left Behind Act each year with Math and ELA assessment scores higher than both Oakland's and California's averages.
