Adult Education Programs in Napa County: Empowering Learners and Building a Skilled Workforce

Napa County offers a variety of adult education programs designed to empower adult learners, enhance their skills, and prepare them for the workforce. These programs address the diverse needs of the community, providing opportunities for individuals to earn a high school diploma, acquire career skills, and pursue further education.

Napa Valley Adult Education Consortium (NVAEC)

The Napa Valley Adult Education Consortium (NVAEC) plays a central role in coordinating and providing adult education services in the region. NVAEC is a consortium of Napa Valley Unified School District/Napa Valley Adult Education, Napa Valley College, Napa County Office of Education, Calistoga Joint Unified School District and St. Helena Unified School District. Its vision is to create a student-centered continuum of educational programs and services resulting in a literate and skilled workforce that represents the diverse composition of our community.

Adult Education Block Grant

Assembly Bill 104 established the Adult Education Block Grant. The grant provides funding to regional consortia in the State of California to address the needs of at-risk adult learners to enable them to get the education and skills needed to enter the work force.

Career Online High School (COHS) at Napa County Library

Napa County Library, in partnership with the California State Library and Smart Horizons, part of Cengage Learning, offers adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and career certificate online through Career Online High School (COHS). The library's program provides scholarships to qualified adult learners who are looking to earn their high school diploma and expand their career opportunities.

Eligibility Requirements

Live in the County of Napa
Be 19 years or older as of January 1, 2016
Complete the registration survey
Have a Napa County Library Card
Commit to 10 hours per week to study and complete coursework

Applicants who successfully complete the online registration (survey) and prerequisite course are invited to an in-person interview. Successful applicants will be enrolled in the program.

Academic Support

Once enrolled in the program, COHS pairs each student with an online academic coach. The academic coach offers ongoing guidance, evaluates performance, and connects the student with the resources needed to master the courses. Students are given up to 18 months to complete the program.
